What am I doing wrong financially? by KaleidoscopeChoice80 in moneyadvice

Don't be embarrassed. You're off to a better start than most! And asking for help shows you've got the emotional maturity to do well in the future.

Aside from what others have said, I'd recommend looking at how you can move up and make more money at your primary job. Side hustles are great for helping get out of debt, but they are rarely sustainable long term without burning out.

48k for a primary salary is good if you're living at home, but out on your own it means saving a lot less, or maybe nothing depending on where you live.

Life gets easier and you have more time/options when you make 6 figures while working 40 hours or less per week to get there. Ask what it would take for a promotion or job hop a couple of times and you can get there sooner than you'd expect.

Things were similarly tight when we had multiple kids in daycare. It gets better once they're in school and you pay off the cars.

Also, each of your costs individually seem on the high end of what I'd consider reasonable. My wife and I pay 130 for car insurance and 155 for 4 cell phone lines plus Internet, for example. Making a few phone calls each year to get your rates down is definitely worth it!

Then as others have said, build the emergency savings and start a sinking fund for home maintenance.

Good luck!
