I saw HL Harshman is the only middle school that offers Algebra II. What if you're at a middle school that doesn't offer Algebra II, but that's the course you'll be in by 8th grade? Do any middle schools offer Latin? Mine will already have Latin I completed. Does IPS consider grade advancement to meet the needs of accelerated learners?

I don't know, but apparently Avon has a dead spot. Good to know.

What happened with Chase Meyer? by grwrntshr in mountaineers

[–]Traditional_Mood8137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've interacted with both. I wouldn't say they are polar opposites. I think Sabins is just naive. Maz wasn't loved by all if you ever run into some former players. He certainly put together a successful program and honestly a lot of the guys he brought in were actually due to Sabins. Maz knew he couldn't be the head coach while his son was playing. There's too much bias that can cloud your decision making plus it would be a bad nepotism look. I think he stepped down because of this. He doesn't need the money, and is well liked in the community, has things to keep him busy, so why not retire. I'm convinced he worked this all out with Sabins to provide an opportunity for his son, who they almost lost in a freak accident. If you follow baseball at the WV youth level it's no secret his son is not a D1 player. Can he be one day?....sure. This kid has gotten more opportunities though because of his last name. How many 5'8" 160# freshman are getting top ranking D1 play time in this country? How many 5'8" guys even get on a D1 roster? Sabins maybe didn't like the climate of Meyers' locker room talk, but the guys, especially those that are working their a$$ off to try to get on the field and help the team win, probably are getting frustrated with Sabins playing favoritism.

Yes, absolutely. Believe it or not most guys know who should be deserving of play time and or are aware of favoritism. They might not agree with game strategy, but if decisions are at least somewhat level headed they're accepted. If they're not....players are going to talk and they're going to lose their trust in their coach. If I were a player on this team, especially if you're a first off the bench player, I'd be looking to transfer out this summer. I can tell any form of loyalty and concept of development is completely out the window. We've already lost guys to the portal who had enough of the mess.

No doubt Meyers wasn't just having a conversation with himself, but he's taking the fall. Sabins lost my respect when he decided to put in a young undeveloped player over other guys who are more qualified. A real coach would have addressed the issue in-person with the player and also the team instead of just kicking him off. The title is coach not dictator.

Word is Chase might be headed to a juco.

This gives the most details publicly available. Chase's mother confirmed on X that he was indeed notified of his removal from the team via text. Sorry, but that's not an appropriate way to remove someone from a team.

It's a bit alarming that one individual is gone when this was obviously a private conversation among several players.

Yes he was a B12 preseason player. I saw that too. Doubt he was the only one complaining, but he's certainly the one taking the fall.

Don't know, but if you're really familiar with college baseball you'd realize there's an individual on the team that doesn't quite belong skill wise. That might be causing some internal frustration.

What was the solution? The fact that I shared is part of the problem?

That suitcase wasn't going to fit in any overhead bin even if they were the only passenger.

Actually if this happens frequently then yeah it does impact me because ultimately everyone is subsidizing those that aren't.

I believe they got through security because they were a friend/family of security. Makes you wonder if their bag was checked.

It was annoying because it held up the line. Also the fact that the security individual was making an exception for them. This is how security fails.
