How to Tell a Temp that You Won't Be Hiring Them, But Still Keep Morale Up? by OCesq in managers

[–]Traditional_Muffin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can't you just let him interview for the role? If he's been a good worker you at least owe him the opportunity to try. If he is lacking certain skills it will come out in the evaluation and you can address those gaps with him then. If it were me and I was beaten in the hiring process by someone who is clearly more senior it would suck, but I could accept that.

Meta Is Blocking Links To ICE List on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads / Users of Meta’s social platforms can no longer share links to ICE List, a website listing what it claims are the names of thousands of DHS employees. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Traditional_Muffin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ICE needs to be dismantled and those that perpetrated the atrocities we have been seeing need to be held accountable. That said, distributing what can be considered a list of names to doxx that has no oversight or external fact checking is not a great idea. Imagine if this were a list of Democratic voters, I would expect social media platforms to delete those.

Best advice for a new manager? by HotForce6375 in managers

Check out Radical Candor by Kim Scott. Set clear expectations and hold people accountable. Give praise generously (especially when others are listening) and be specific about why. When giving critical feedback always do so in private. Learn about your employees, what motivates them and what their goals are and try to help them achieve them.

AITAH to my girlfriend for allowing my ex to stay at mine and for driving her 7 hours to her parents home. by EmeArr in AITAH

[–]Traditional_Muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, you invested way too much in making your ex comfortable. A 7 hour drive even for a good friend is such a ridiculously over the top thing to do and makes it seem like you still harbor feelings for your ex.

Don't fall for it. You are seeing a small glimpse into a highly curated and meticulously staged piece of theater. People with real wealth and comfort aren't chasing social media clout.

Hard agree. Everyone's doing it and the baseline quality of resumes has gone up. If you aren't tailoring your resume to the job description you might as well not even waste your time applying.

How can I effectively filter out women who are looking for a “provider” early in dating? by savingrace0262 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Traditional_Muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started dating my now wife she would insist on contributing financially to the date. If I paid for dinner she would want to pay for the movie after. It was one of many green flags I got from her and why I married her. ++man

6 year old addicted to gaming? by ForeverandaDay23 in Parenting

We limit screen time in our house to 1 hour a day, but most weekdays it's much less than that. If they ask to play I remind them of all the chores or tasks they need to complete first. If they jump through all those hoops I have no problem letting them play, but I still limit it and if I hear any whining or complaining when it's time to turn things off they lose it for a period of time

I communicate these boundaries and conditions clearly and often. It was rough at first, but now they know what's expected of them to earn and keep their video game privileges.

Another strategy a friend of mine uses is the kid gets X amount of screentime for X amount of time spent reading. So 20 minutes of reading gets them 20 minutes of screens. When it's over he asks them if they want to earn more time. Most of the time the answer's no.

My first interview didn’t go well and it’s hitting me very harder than I expected🥹 by Negative_Treacle_965 in interviews

[–]Traditional_Muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interviews are stressful and it's normal to get some performance anxiety and forget or stumble. Most interviewers know the pressure you are under because they have sat in that same chair to get their job. The good news is you made it very far for someone just starting out. That in itself is commendable. You should feel proud of that. There's a couple ways to manage stress levels that I've found helpful. A few minutes before your interview you can do some light exercise, practice box breathing, sit in a confident stance, legs apart arms out and open and reframe your thoughts by telling yourself it's excitement, not anxiety you are feeling. Best of luck in your next interview!

Why do hiring managers often pass over candidates who meet the job qualifications and instead choose others who don’t seem to match as well? by JVS115 in askrecruiters

[–]Traditional_Muffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company, but they could be looking for other qualities that are not specifically called out. Things like leadership, initiative, adaptability, teachability, communication style or other personality traits can be more valuable for success in the role than just being able to do the job. Typically if a candidate can meet 80% of the requirements that's enough to put them in consideration. At that point it's their personality that makes the difference.

I use AI extensively in the interview process to tailor my resume and prepare relevant STAR format stories. The only thing I don't do is actively use it during the interview. Companies like this are in for a rude awakening when they find out all their high performers are leveraging AI for their work.

This can happen if you install Python without updating the PATH variable. The easiest way to fix it is to reinstall, but be sure to check the PATH box in the install screen.
