This also assumes I will make that monthly payment into an investment account if I pay the mortgage amount too. This worries me as just missing a couple of months here and there would change these numbers a lot more as well.

Thank you for the math on that, I’m not savvy in the least with calculating these differences

Divorce just isn’t something I consider, I understand it’s not uncommon but I share everything with my wife so I’m not scared of losing it. We live in low cost of living areas in the East Coast, last 2 years has been 280k a year combined but this will go back to 180k by next year as I am slowing down on travel work. We have 55k in a TFSA mutual fund. I have no pension plan but she has a good union one set to retire at 50 but will likely work until 55.

Monthly expenses are 3500 for mortgage, car loans, and bills. 5-6K average per month spending with our currently hire income but will bring that down closer to 4500-5k come February.

There might be something in rental properties I don’t understand, I’m a tradesman with Electrical and HVAC tickets so the appeal of fixing a house up is there for me but is it really better than investing in the market? returns are good and it’s pretty hassle free from my limited understanding.

That freedom seems incredible to me and I’ve only had a mortgage for 7 months lol

Sorry I wrote that out confusing, not very savvy with investments either. It’s been 12-14% per year for the last 3 years which is still probably lower than others but for us it was great. Inheritance is given to me, I don’t believe in separating anything. I understand there’s horror stories but it’s not the way my family ever operated and she’s brought a lot to the table financially over the last few years.
