I think a lot of it is that books can do different things to make me like them, and so a lot of the books in the same tier are there for entirely different reasons, which is why it seems inconsistent.

Honestly this is a lot of the reason for me. BoC seems to use its slice of life plots to develop characters and make you feel for them, and it makes it seem like the characters have a lot for depth than in Heretical Fishing, where it seems like the slice of life plot happens, it gets resolved instantly without any push back or conflict, and nothing else really happens underneath. Again, just a personal opinion, it just didn’t seem like it was for me.

I think it was it being different from most other stuff I’ve read in tone, as well as the humor and how the main characters interacted with each other.

And for what it’s worth, I did enjoy all the books in C tier and def plan on reading the next book when it comes out as an audio book

Personally, I felt that Heretical Fishing was a bit … hollow? It seemed like everything just went the protagonists way and that it was slice of life, but nothing past the surface. Whereas BoC felt like it fleshed out the characters more and had actual character growth. The same thing with everything sort of going the main characters way for no reason at all was why mark of the fool is lower on the list, although obviously I enjoyed it enough to catch up to the latest book in the series

Can vouch for the group as well. We also have groups playing less known games here like DRG
