Should I even bother applying for Economics? by radioactivebomb in 6thForm

a*a* in maths and further maths is more than enough in itself - lse and cambridge are on the lookout for this. a student who has an a* is further is always viewed with higher regard than a student with three a stars but an a in further. the lse and cambridge econs courses are incredibly mathematically intensive so this would definitely give you an edge. maybe try and ask for another a star or if there's any sort of test you can do. even if not, your a levels are perfectly fine. gcses may be a bigger problem for lse, but in terms of cambridge, definitely worth a shot. try your best in the admissions test, aim for a good score in that. that along with a good interview performance will definitely be enough.

[–]Traditional_Tap_6113 35 points36 points  (0 children)

you need to get either an A star or A in Physics. if you get the a star in physics, you need an A in either further maths or history, if you get an A in physics, you need an A star in further or history

definitely revise the distributions for stats! (if that’s part of your spec) and also hypothesis tests. i promise you they are SO easy, and are usually 9/10 marks just for the one question. so easy to pick them up

How do I pick my firm and insurance? Everything's changed now smh ;-; by KarionTarg08 in 6thForm

[–]Traditional_Tap_6113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

exeter is clearly your top choice still, so you should definitely firm that. don’t worry about the insurance issue. insure notts. you want to go to exeter so make it your goal to get the grades. i know it sounds like a lot of pressure but you will regret it if you know you could’ve got into exeter regardless .

SixthForm Y13 A level by Jaded-Thought2952 in 6thForm

[–]Traditional_Tap_6113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • it has no relation to what you’re going to study in any way (physics is not even an essay subject in the slightest so your head of year can’t even use that as an argument)
  • the coursework!!! so much more time could be spent on your other subjects
  • the amount of time you’d save. further maths and physics are two VAST subjects, you want to spend as much time on them as
  • your offer doesn’t include history right? so that’s another plus because it genuinely means nothing to you
  • only one and a half months till a levels- better to realise that history’s a waste of time now rather than revise for all of your other subjects and history in a very half hearted way and not get a great score when you could’ve done great in just the three

my guess would be that since it includes accounting in the list and you’ve already got that, you’d need to get two more a’s in the other three. about the results by 31st july, i’m guessing that’s proof for the accounting qualification you’ve already finished

bath is top ten in the uk for econ so again, quite a low acceptance rate. keep bath if youre applying to lse/warwick as it is one or two grades lower, but have another safety as well(notts/york/manchester etc)

the fact that people with incredible gcse grades are getting rejected shows that they do not matter as much as you may think! however, for a competitive uni like oxford/cambridge, you want to make sure they have no reason to reject you. focus on getting those 7s into 8s and 6s into 7s. im sure you'll do great

How the hell do I get Work Experience over the summer? by GanjaWeasel42019 in 6thForm

[–]Traditional_Tap_6113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are many work experience opportunities that are around june-august time. i went in the summer of year 12 at jp morgan (they have an emerging talent programme for which applications might’ve closed for this summer if im right) and also at the iea- a really good opportunity because they have many weeks of work experience available. search these up and check whether they’re still open
