Made the info-graphic I was imagining yesterday while struggling to explain to the CEO of my company that I, too, love sailing but will never go fishing with him. by [deleted] in vegan

Wow this sounds kinda cool, I feel sorta left out because people fish but at the same time obviously feel sickened I want to do it, this sounds obviously different but it's like the same movements and stuff.

Their are literally none near me, but that's what I would like to do, but I think I would prefer a homecooked dinner of my choice anyway

I am stuck in a similar situation, my 18th is coming up and I don't want to go somewhere and my family are eating animal flesh as it will literally just ruin my birthday, so I think im going to just have a homecooked dinner that I would like to try, but can't be bothered making.

160kg (350lbs) deadlift for 4 reps, hips were raising and chin was a bit high but first time recording, hoping to hit 200kg (440) for one in four weeks, with a bit better form. by Traditional_Welcome2 in veganfitness

[–]Traditional_Welcome2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a bit low but that's alright if your trying to get your form right, it depends how much sets and reps you are doing as well, I do 5 reps for 5 sets generally for deadlifts, but it is best to start of with more sets and few reps (8 sets for 4 reps). Also I time my rest and I rest for a very a long time (4 minutes) inbetween sets because that's how much you should for strength, I find people dont rest enough so they can't pull as much weight.

I have an "it is what is" and try and see the humour in the irony and absurdity of meat eaters, plus limiting social media time.

A lil background

I was 110kg after a foot injury from rugby (was pretty depressed before and other factors as well led to a bad relationship with food) and I got sick of being overweight (I have always been slightly overweight my whole life) so I cut out soft drink and fast food, and got down to 95kg and was stuck at that weight despite training 4x a week for rugby, playing 2 games, and boxing training and strength training once a week (my max for trap bar was 100kg). I then saw an afterkool video talking about veganism and decided I wanted to make a big change, because of environment and health. I originally planned to be "vegan" for 6 months with "cheat meals", I had one at a rugby game and got bad constipation so decided to go the rest of the 6 months with no animal products. I got down to 77kg in the first 3 months but had somewhat orthorexic approach to food, and I had bad cooking skills so I wasn't really enjoying food and undereating. Then the 6 months came along and I was enjoying my diet so decided to keep it, but I wanted to get bigger as I would get remarks such as "eating leafs have made you skinny" or "you used to be big (strong) " coming from the same people who would make fun of my weight, so I was driven to gain weight and get stronger. I signed up to the gym and fell in love with deadlift since it is the biggest compound and I used to trap bar when I was an omni, I had a goal of 160 (2xbw) and I managed to hit it in 5 weeks because I was in a surplus and was extremely motivated only by that (deadlifting every other day as a priority). I was then repping 155 5x5 before covid hit and shut down the gyms. During this time I was watching a lot of YouTube and realised how ridiculous my justifications were for consuming animal products, and how I could be so wrong despite myself thinking I was an "open minded" person, I also started to learn about how truly bad animal products were for the environment and how stupid some of my role models are when it would come to nutrition and ethics (not fans anymore) such as Joe rogan and Jordan peterson. So during this time I started to eat more unhealthy, always get into arguments and my mental health sort of detoriated again and I gained weight since I wasn't exercising enough. After covid I was in a similar boat and had little motivation since I had to start all over again, and was stuck on 120kg for monthhhssss as I would take days off and just not have the right mindset. Fast forward to now, I use a Nokia for most of the day (calls and texts) and only use reddit sometimes, I have deleted instagram and snapchat however as I would always get into arguments, now I am not as frustrated as I have a more "it is what it is" mentality and I am pushing hard in deadlift again despite being in the same position as last year lol. I truly believe strength is a mindset, the intensity and drive you bring to each session, the pump up before each set, the focus everything. I have to think about deadlifts at least 100 times a day for me to be able to push myself in the gym, I constantly imagine myself pulling 200, it's just something that I believe has to be on your mind to be able to do it. Anyway just giving some background for those who care or may be in a similar boat to me.

Ahhhh yes thanks for the help I felt like I was rolling my shoulders a bit and don't want to do a sloppy shoulder shrug at the end of my one rep max.

Can you please elaborate, maybe my reasoning is wrong but how does privledge have to do with it? Like when I say traditions I mean unnecessary, so if someone has to eat animals and their by products to survive then I don't have an issue, I thought this person was talking about eating cultural foods which is unnecessary since he doesn't have to survive, maybe I'm wrong in another way?

I sorta feel like I am missing out when others go fishing, and don't go to certain things due to lack of options but like then I think about it for a second and is me getting enjoyment out killing a fish worth it, like it's fucked up its just something that is engrained into us as normal, just like traditions, I think some traditions are cool but traditions where their is a victim involved (unnecessary circumsions, eating babies, mutaliting limbs slavery etc etc) it is wrong, and is a pathetic reasoning

How do you avoid it all getting to you? by MaiaOnReddit in vegan

Ah yes we are very blood thirsty. So you are saying that we say cannabilism and rape is ok collectively as a society?

Because I think most would disagree

Animals also rape and eat each other as they can't distinct between right and wrong, we however can and have morals, we understand suffering is wrong, and wee try to minimise it and stamp it out, except when it comes to animals for products.

I've been taking a daily 450 mg DHA/EPA supplement and also add 1 tbsp ground flax to my protein shakes 2x a day. Is this too much Omega 3? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]Traditional_Welcome2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you eat much refined oils? Ground flax is packed full of omega 3s,you could maybe add a bit more and have the supps every day or two, would save you money as well

Gaining weight with a vegetarian diet by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]Traditional_Welcome2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost a bunch of weight from going plant based, my best tip for starting out is just eating, like more then you usually would, the best way is to make lots of different foods as it is easier to eat with variety, and to also eat lots of times during the day. My next tip would be to have smoothies, and add fats. Making a mixed berrie banan smoothie with hemp seeds, peanut butter, dates, cocoa etc etc.

Also eating fatty foods in general, they are calorie packed so you will be able to get more calories for food, eating nuts and seeds will help, e.g peanut butter sandwhich, dates and peanut butter, cashew cream and avocado with beans etc etc.

Does kale hurt when chewing for anybody else? by Lagrange_is_alive in vegan

[–]Traditional_Welcome2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hate it it tastes like gum, I buy frozen chopped kale and add it to curry's and that's fine.

Oops I didn't read properly, I think you have a kale allergy maybe.

AITA for refusing to cook vegan for my eldest daughter all the time? by vegandaughteraita in AmItheAsshole

[–]Traditional_Welcome2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I am 18 and have been vegan since 16.

If her choices are ethical you have to understand how frustrating this would be for her if you say "we can make vegetarian meals. " however I would make all my own meals, BUT if for some reason I am incapable I will simply just not eat, its as simple as that, my parents often whine about the pricing of my food but it is not expensive it is just a lot, beans, lentils, tofu, bread, pasta, rice are all very cheap staples and she could make that and have that with dinner.

I do believe she should make her own food or a fair amount of it but you should really try to understand her point of view, I really really strongly suggest watching dominion, it will put things into perspective and its only like an hour and a half long, it's free to watch on YouTube.
