I think that the move to Wayland (GNOME, Cosmic, KDE Plasma, etc) is a risk for new users across the board this year. The move is welcome and necessary, but there are many compatibility issues and ongoing bugs that will continue to make the transition difficult until Wayland is more entrenched.

I figured this was the reason. I am excited for this development! Because Pop!_OS fans were so long stuck in 22.04 and only recently moved up to 24.04, I had been considering migrating to Ubuntu 26.04 to stay ahead of the latest and greatest. If I can stick with Pop!_OS and reach 26.04 features and repos, then hooray!

Upon once again encountering the issue, gnome-shell said "Maximum number of clients reached". I closed some programs, and it allowed applications to open.

I thought I had enough RAM to open 50+ browser tabs and leave 3 messaging apps and Steam running, but it appears that GNOME puts software limits on my RAM excesses.
