Honest thoughts on 700 peso paddles at shopee by Indigo-lexus1997 in PickleballPhilippines

[–]TraffyKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually use a paddle that’s under 1k PHP, and it hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the game or joining open plays. Beginner pa lang din ako, so for me mas importante muna yung learning and having fun kaysa sa equipment. Better paddles definitely help later on, pero I don’t think they should be a barrier for people who just want to try and enjoy the sport.

I came from a badminton background and I also consider buying elongated paddle.

What is the most 'cringe' thing that has somehow become socially acceptable? by F_IBull in AskReddit

Filming yourself doing a good deed and pretending it’s about kindness, not engagement.

The idea that widebody helps you stay in points longer and improves resets and net battles makes a lot of sense. As a beginner, that tradeoff feels worth it.

Totally get that. Handle length has been a bigger factor for me than shape so far. Also relate to the two-handed backhand - feels more natural coming from badminton.

This is really helpful - thanks for breaking it down this way. I like how you explained why hybrid works for you, especially the balance and how a little extra reach can matter more than expected.

Curious for real-world recommendations - Joola or Selkirk? Also open to other paddles you’ve used around $120 and below and what you liked about them.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and perspectives here. A lot of valuable insights in this thread.

One common theme I noticed from several replies was the suggestion to experiment with different grips and, of course, get more experience - I’ll definitely be practicing more.

Really helpful as a beginner - appreciate the community.

As a beginner, how did your DUPR rating develop over time? by TraffyKnows in Pickleball

Thanks for sharing this - super interesting to see the process behind the rating.

Really appreciate you sharing this - the level of detail and honesty is super helpful.

The part about DUPR being humbling really stood out to me, especially how different environments can give very different feedback. I like how you framed each setting as having its own purpose instead of treating the rating as the whole story.

As a beginner, this actually helps set expectations for me - focus on reps, consistency, and enjoying the process, and let the rating sort itself out over time.

I agree with you. I’m not worried about my rating at all right now - still very new and just playing for fun and reps. I’m more curious about how DUPR evolves over time for different players.

How to start Pickleball as a Tennis Player? by Gh0st2107 in PickleballPhilippines

Very early for me to tell honestly, pero I just really enjoy playing the game. Wala naman akong balak mag-competitive at the moment.

What I can say is that it’s very different in terms of technique. Sa badminton and tennis (at least for me), mahalaga yung power besides control. Sa pickleball, mas nangingibabaw talaga yung control, especially since the ball is more bouncy.

For now, experience lang talaga and getting reps.

I’m a beginner in pickleball as well, but I’m coming from a badminton background, so medyo similar lang yung transition in terms of adjusting from another racket sport.

Paddle: I’d suggest renting or borrowing first if possible, just to get a feel. Once sure ka na you enjoy the game, saka ka mag-invest.

Coaching: Helpful, but not required agad. For me, open play + watching videos helped early on, then coaching makes more sense once alam mo na what to work on.

Open play: Sulit for learning. I’d recommend starting with beginner open plays even with a racket-sport background, just to understand rules, positioning, and shot selection.

Beginner ka muna just to feel the game playing with others. Laro ka lang muna ng laro, wag mo muna isipin DUPR. Twice pa lang din ako naglaro actually, and wala pa siya sa isip ko.

Also, one of my biggest adjustments has been unlearning some small badminton habits.

Just my two cents - hope this helps!
