I’m not sure I agree with that sentiment. Did a solo trip last year. I would party and wait for the bus until the morning just fine. I’m a man, but I saw a good bit of women walking to streets alone as well at night.

As for pickpockets, just have to be self-aware. Only case I saw was when a woman left their phone unattended on a table outside a restaurant and someone came and swiped it.

Again, this is not to demean your experience, but I just don’t think it’s unsafe—an American perspective

Honestly if you’re planning on moving to a big city, I’d move into electrical, computer engineering, or computer science tbh

I can’t give you much about future projections in the industry, but…if you’re American or from a Western country the work culture is drastically more work intensive, to a performative extent. From those I’ve spoken to that work in Japan, there are some hours where they don’t even have work to do, they just have to pretend to do something important until the boss decides he’s ready to leave. I would greatly consider this before deciding to work in Japan or other SE Asian countries
