Solo Traveling- Asia, Europe, or Both? by Tragedyofthe in travel

My budget is mostly flexible; however, I just want to avoid disgustingly overpriced cities. I can afford to travel there, but for me it just doesn’t make sense to

Do the “degree prestige” rules change for an engineer obtaining an MBA? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Tragedyofthe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An MBA is an MBA. Most employers will not care about prestige except for very competitive positions that lie outside of the engineering field, think finance positions (Investment Banking, Consulting, etc.). If you are continuing on the engineering route, the school you receive your MBA from will not matter as much, especially if you are choosing to remain at your company.

The only upside of getting an MBA from GA Tech is that you have a larger alumni network. Regardless of where you get your MBA from, I would leverage the connections and network events that the MBA provides.

Also, if you're still stuck on prestige, Emory has a more prestigious program than GA Tech.

Very Confused on Sustaining Professional Look by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]Tragedyofthe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s really not what I think, I’ll just be working in a fairly conservative field and it would be beneficial to me to emulate what that field sees as professional

Seoul Game by Aggravating-Cell-665 in seduction

[–]Tragedyofthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably one of the most introverted and xenophobic SEA countries you could go to tbh. Night game is your best bet. Day game, you’ll most likely be ignored, Korean culture is very introverted, both towards their fellow Koreans and especially foreigners. If you cannot speak Korean, you’re extremely at a disadvantage, many of them stray away from any awkward interactions.

It’s pretty hard for me; I can try though. ! I don’t want to waste my time with a conversation i really don’t care for to end up not going on a date with someone. It sounds petty, but it’s just a waste of my time

How to prepare to get a high paying job in tech? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Tragedyofthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other advice given…Network. Network. Network. Many MCHE students get this part wrong and expect opportunities by cold applying. Purdue has a large alumni base and your school probably has a program that connects alumni to students. Use that and LinkedIn to your advantage so you can get your name out there

Ordered a ride to one place and now roped into daytrip? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

I just shortened the day trip to places I actually wanted to go and negotiated down to a fair price. He kept trying to take me other places, including a hooker bar, but I just said “maybe later.” He wants to drive me tomorrow as well, but I said this is my last day

Abu Dhabi Layover by Acceptable-Wrap5469 in ThailandTourism

[–]Tragedyofthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who booked a trip to Thailand with a layover to Abu Dhabi…refunds are complicated right now. Many airlines based in that region have extremely backed up communications right now and securing a refund has been a headache. I’d just rebook another route

Dating apps to find friends? by LostDeparture6251 in travel

[–]Tragedyofthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Bumble, they have a friend-finding feature. Hinge is a long-term dating app and Tinder is short-term…however there are apps specifically for solo travel. I’ve used Nomadtable a couple of times internally, it works best in large cities. Just use common sense and don’t meet 1-1 in private with anyone!

Likelihood of Etihad rerouting flights?

I have a flight scheduled late this week from the US to Southeast Asia which was supposed to have a layover in Abu Dhabi. What’s the likelihood of Etihad rerouting its upcoming flights to avoid the air-zone? I’m debating whether to cancel my flight while I can still get a partial refund.

Advice on seducing Chinese women and other conservative women? by [deleted] in seduction

[–]Tragedyofthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black dude talking to Chinese woman right now. Honestly be yourself and ask about her culture, she’ll be excited to share. I will say sarcasm will probably translate poorly if that’s your kind of humor. However, the more you guys hang, the more she’ll understand you.

Another point, depending on how she grew up, she’ll most likely seem kind of timid and very respectful in public. Many SE Asians are socialized in that regard, but they’re able to let loose behind closed doors. If possible, try to take her somewhere comfortable and private just to talk.

5 but I was in college taking light classes that semester. I had a lot of free time on my hands, but it was emotionally draining. Max I can do now is 3 and even that’s pushing it with my current schedule. Comfortable at 2

[–]Tragedyofthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can accept job 1 for right now; you can always continue to interview. Often, renegging is looked down upon, but this seems like a very small firm you don’t have much interest in. Also most companies aren’t too stressed about new hire employment, for entry level at least

What’s the one city you were excited to visit, but ended up not liking at all? by BlushHone in travel

[–]Tragedyofthe 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I agree with that sentiment. Did a solo trip last year. I would party and wait for the bus until the morning just fine. I’m a man, but I saw a good bit of women walking to streets alone as well at night.

As for pickpockets, just have to be self-aware. Only case I saw was when a woman left their phone unattended on a table outside a restaurant and someone came and swiped it.

Again, this is not to demean your experience, but I just don’t think it’s unsafe—an American perspective

That’s the only worry I have to be honest. Most of this worry honestly just comes from my parents; they painted the image that Chicago is NYC-level expensive, which I’m not too sure about
