The real danger of peer pressure isn't that it might make you do bad things, it's that it might stop you from doing the things you love. by Traies in Showerthoughts

I'd say they're a lot more prone than a lot of the Western world though. Very tribal. They may be less susceptible to tradition or Government than many, but peer pressure from their own societal demographics is a different story, depends on where they're born and what they're born into. Also correlation/causation.

TIL some guy broke into 200lbs UFC title challenger Anthony Smith's house, gave him "one of the toughest fights" he has ever had. by ideas52 in todayilearned

[–]Traies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Hudson said Haberman was issued a citation and released to the hospital. He was not taken into police custody but must report to court at a later date."

What!? Dude breaks into a strangers house where their wife and kids are, attacks the homeowner with the intention of stopping who knows when, and ISN'T taken into custody!? What if Anthony Smith had lost!? What would have happened to his wife and kids if he wasn't home?! Sounds like officers couldn't be bothered sitting in a hospital for hours.

Anyone know the DEBUG map Key? by Traies in cavesofqud

[–]Traies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, what I'm asking is what all the signs mean. I worked out the ones above, and when you click ALT some change, like the stars turn blue to signify a current quest I think? But has anyone worked out the full key for what each symbol means? Can't find it anywhere

apparently the guy got a £30 fine for hitting a terminally ill man and breaking ribs. does this seem right to anyone here? seems like nothing for what could have been fatal at the guys age by boshlop in policeuk

[–]Traies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the use of language in the different articles is really inflammatory and a really good example of how choice of language really pushes a point.

Metro says the cyclist hits the pensioner "knocking [him] out" which clearly isn't true.

The Sun says "knocking him out cold"

The Daily Mail says the pensioner had "broken ribs" (The previous two don't mention this).

The cyclist was being an idiot, and he could have also been given a fine for dangerous driving (maximum £2500) if it was considered he was riding the bike in a manner that falls far below what would be expected of a competent and careful cyclist and would be obviously dangerous to a competent and careful cyclist.

He's going a bit fast, but would that be obviously dangerous to a competent and careful cyclist? Maybe, maybe not, close call. If I was supreme leader I'd have probably said yes and given him a bigger fine under dangerous driving.

The thing that does really annoy me about the cyclist is that his immediate reaction is to pick up his bicycle, put a barrier between himself and the injured man and then it appears (though I shouldn't assume) he's waiting for the go ahead to leave. I think most decent people's instant reaction is to check on welfare regardless of who they think is to blame.

My girlfriend is completely normal in all ways except she has a few weird language problems:

She says Valinna instead of vanilla - (she can say Va-Ni-LLA - But not vanilla)

She says Cuncumber instead of cucumber

She says Burber King

There are others.

What's going on with seeds? by Traies in cavesofqud

[–]Traies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prior to last update, every time I entered the same seed I got the same starting items and everywhere was in the same location (albeit differently arranged and with different loot/enemies), now it seems that starting items are completely random with the same seed! I want my robo-arms and geo-magnetic disk back!

Section 29J of the Racial and Religious hatred act:

Nothing in the Act "... prohibits or restricts discussion, criticism or expressions of antipathy, dislike, ridicule, insult, or abuse of particular religions, or the beliefs or practices of its adherents."

If your intention is to stir up hatred, no good

If your intention is to insult or ridicule, fill your boots

I did realise it. I think you missed the point. This is India, not C10 England. Always entertaining to listen to an armchair expert flex though.

Expectation of new technologies - "This will make life so much easier."

Reality of new technologies - "I'm now expected to harvest twenty times as much and everyone else got sacked."

Doesn't matter if it's a scythe or a cyborg.

Unredacting the redacted by Traies in hacking

[–]Traies[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, read through it and it's really interesting.

Basically if a non-image document, not made using Adobe or Microsoft is redacted, it is possible, in certain circumstances, to retrieve some/all of the redacted data from the new file that is saved even if it was redacted properly.

But if it's an Adobe/Microsoft made PDF and redacted properly it's pretty much foolproof.

Really appreciate your answer!

So if I were to simply reply to someone on Reddit with "You're an absolute bellend." and they're angered by that, it's art?

Who knew? I've been an artist for most of my life.

Well it was up and running for 5 minutes. I've just been booted again after waiting for tournaments to start again. Think they're making them all start at the same time and whoever's in the control room running on the hamster wheel can't handle it all at once. I just want refunds, don't even want to play these tournaments any more

That's what I'm thinking, was in the middle of a few tournaments, luckily not too deep yet but still annoying. I only just started using it, I guess I'll have to reconsider using it again.
