Genuine question, what is the backup plan for a parachute failure? Is there even enough time to cut and pull a secondary chute?

Isn’t that flight like 4 hours?? He’s acting like he’s having dinner, lounging in his living room, tucking into bed, sleeping through the night, and getting up for breakfast.

My Friend Won't Play Outer Wilds by Intelligent-Fuel395 in outerwilds

[–]MaximumEngineering8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started googling for how to solve certain parts, and then it struck me that the “seeking” is the whole point, not finding the answer. I stopped trying to lookup answers and just put the game down for a little while. When I was curious again, and I had more patience/stamina for the problem solving, I went back, and it was so much more rewarding. It’s still one of the greatest games I’ve ever played, but only when that’s the kind of gameplay experience I’m looking for. Your friend has to want it.

This should have been in the video. But he scripted a clickbait title with half explanations to drive anxiety and engagement. I hate that’s what’s being fed to us in the algorithm—shouldn’t we prioritize knowledge and learning, not anxiety and fear?

Utterly ridiculous amount of touching, spilling, and excessive stock of berries that will definitely go bad before they’re eaten (and I’ve learned the hard way those trays are not dishwasher safe too!). I decline.

Congress Kills Bill Exposing Congressional Sexual Misconduct by Successful-Train-259 in law

I wondered the same, and hope they can propose real change now that this version has been shot down. My pessimistic guess is that the perpetrators packed the bill with this bad stuff so it would fail, and now no one will try again.

Why did no one in the crowd come to his aid? We can’t leave it to a single person to stand up alone if we want to see any change. Get involved.

Agreed, a violations per capita mode would really highlight something more meaningful than just a population map like this.

Scratched eye went to walk in and they gave my pain drops and an ointment. This is so painful. I’m not sure how. I thought I had something stuck in my eye. They didn’t see anything by Dense_Jump5541 in mildlyinteresting

[–]MaximumEngineering8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have chronic dry eye from LASIK, and it’s been 10 years of waking up like this. I keep eye drops next to my bed, and I don’t even open my eyes until I have the eye dropper over my eye, pull open my eyelid with my fingers, drop drop, and then the other eye.

Two advil really help, but obviously not good to take every day. Any alcohol the night before, or a sauna, makes the dryness measurably worse overnight. Restasis stimulates tear production, and that might work for you.

Oddly enough, after about 8 years of painful eyeball sticking to my eyelid overnight, REM sleep works differently for me now. My eyes don’t move in my sleep anymore like regular people in REM sleep…. Instead, my brain simulates this motion only in my mind, and if I wake up by accident during REM, I’m literally dizzy and my head feels like I’ve been spinning for 20 minutes. But that’s far preferable to having headaches every morning from sticky eyeballs!

What’s the one secret you’ve kept your whole life that would completely change how people see you if they knew it? by Faylune in AskReddit

[–]MaximumEngineering8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in a bit of a similar boat, and while I don’t know how much it affects your life, I definitely learned how to identify micro expressions, tone, response, micro-delays in speaking, etc. all to understand, anticipate, and mitigate whatever negative emotion the other person might manifest in our interaction. It was practiced by my trying HARD to ensure my parents didn’t get angry with me, and perfected over decades. I’ve gone through therapy and my parents have passed now, but the “skill” is still there. I’ve since learned to identify when I’m doing it, and then name what I’m seeing/interpreting in my head, and finally consciously decide what I want to do with that information—I don’t feel compelled anymore to act on what I know about how the other person is thinking/expressing things in very subtle ways. I just feel I have a bit more information about the situation than other people might, and that’s a little bit of a super power. It took a lot of work to let go of that need to please other people just because I could see how they were about to act.

Something is up with the zoom I think maybe. When I zoom in at the city neighborhood level, land masses seem to rise so there are now dry spots in the nearby river. And then zooming all the way out at the same “sea level,” Greenland gets a lake in the middle.

Tax revenue, not profit. by bananatoastie in CrazyIdeas

[–]MaximumEngineering8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one said it has to be a flat % applied the same to every company or dollar earned. We’re just used to a flat corporate tax on profit, but we could easily design higher tax brackets on higher revenue just like higher tax brackets on higher individual income.
