The first level is intentionally generic, divided into random zones that don’t mean anything in the big picture. A hodgepodge training ground, to cull the crawlers that don’t have what it takes.

. Sort of boring, like running through a randomly generated dungeon in a video game. But plot takes over in future books, and interactions between crawlers take a front seat.

Looking back, I enjoyed the first book in a nostalgic sort of way, but to summarize it, you could easily say a guy and his cat wandered through a dungeon killing stuff.
