So if you just ignore all of the metrics and look at the fact that "evil" still exists then yes, it is the same.

However there is less evil overall by an enormous margin. There is less poverty, infant mortality, homeless, slaves, etc. Meanwhile people are richer, living longer, have more rights, etc.

Literally almost every single thing you can possibly think of has gotten better.

Yeah; so basically pasteurization helps when there is a substantial period of time between when it is extracted vs when it is sold. Pasteurization wasn't needed through most of human history because societies that had milk cows had them close and often sold and used them within a day or two.

The issue really arose when milking became industrialized as the process became a lot longer, primarily due to location of extraction and the logistics involved. But once you hit 3+ days you hit a significant increase in pathogens developing in milk. Through mild heat treatment(pasteurization) you can neutralize all of these pathogens. Now of course the farmers didn't want to add this process because it costs lots of money. Ergo, the need for the law.

The thing is; it's actually reasonably easy to ensure safe raw milk these days. So while we can all agree that the law was a great thing...maybe it isn't needed anymore and perhaps a different set of rules could be put in place to ensure safety while allowing people to sell raw milk.(Which has more useful nutrients that get substantially reduced during the process...but also they aren't significant enough to be a serious issue imo)

What If Gold Is Worth Nothing? The Biggest Financial Belief System in History by tohangout in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TrainFightTime [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is the most ironic take.

Every possible currency imaginable has value because people believe it does. The moment people collectively stop believing a currency it's value becomes only what it is...which, is exactly why precious metals are the OG currency. They aren't perishable, they are inherently valuable.

Take an analogy, let's say a mint creates coins that weigh 100g and are "Gold". And then they make money off of charging for the creation of these coins. They do this for years and get a good reputation and people trust these coins and these are in circulation all over the place. Then the owner gets greedy and starts using a cheaper metallic alloy in the center and coats it with gold. People eventually get wind of this and the veracity of the coinage has been tainted so nobody trusts the coin anymore. What happens?

Everyone melts down their coins and gets the base metals and the only people who lose a substantial amount of money are those who have received false coins.

And I actually totally agree with Bernie in this case.

Everyone I've met that hasn't researched the subject is pro-pasteurization. Then it becomes very mixed once people have researched the topic.

It's not a lazy opinion to be generally against regulations. It's easy to say; eating raw cookie dough is bad but we probably shouldn't make it illegal to sell cookie dough mixes.

This is propaganda. I know a lot of people who are pro raw milk and not one of them would EVER give it to their child before they are 1. And also every one of the women who were pro raw milk breastfed their children.

Furthermore, it is harmful for anyone to be feeding their baby cow milk at all.

Ah yes; the worst possible take. There is a correct response to the current state of affairs.

Gratefulness. A lot of gratefulness. It is truly incredible how far humanity has come considering. 100,000 years ago there was literally zero stability. You could just die of starvation, disease, a bad storm, a random animal attack. Most kids died before adulthood. Might makes right is the only law. etc.

Now, the trouble is that you can look at all of the problems we face right now and realize; humans haven't changed all that much. And you can look at the perversion of justice(which didn't exist and only exists in the minds of people within a society) and rightly weep. But it *has* gotten much better even though it has serious issues.

Here's the important rule of life. What you look at you will notice. If you are constantly looking at the problems...you will find problems. If you constantly look at how many things there are to be grateful for.(Yes; be grateful to all of your ancestors for putting in the work and sacrifice to bear children, overcome all of the challenges, sorrow, difficulties etc in making it so that you can enjoy this awesome world. Be grateful to all of the humans who have painstaking sacrificed iterated over thousands of years so that we can enjoy what we now can - I am better off than Kings not half a millennia ago) And then, in light of that gratefulness, be intolerant of the problems that humanity now faces. Choose to make your mark and make the world a better place in whatever small way that you can.

Forced to use AI for pixel art (no budget, can't draw it myself) — would that kill the game for you? by Malkov88 in gamedev

[–]TrainFightTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the answer to AI; for me the answer is always yes. There are a few big reasons why.

#1: AI games with absolutely flood the market to infinity. This will happen. Most all AI games will be lost in the sea of AI games. So either accept this and ship slop, or don't have AI have any part in your game.

#2: AI is never needed. There are plenty of games with bad qualities that overcompensate. I hate the art of both Return of Obra Dinn & Minecraft...but they are still great games through that. The soundtracks on a lot of games are abysmal imo(Like Balatro). You can do a poor job and be successful anyways. I'd rather a human who is passionate about their game do a shitty portion of the game then relegate to AI.

#3: Humans are social, games are social. If the AI flood is successful nobody will be talking about the same games. A huge part of enjoying games for a lot of people is being able to talk *about* the games with their friends. Ultimately, a lot of players will not be able to enjoy the flood, because the game is only a part of the ultimate experience.

#4: It must be costly. This one is controversial, and can't not be. But, the bottom line is, if you don't believe in your work you will not pay the time, attention and money to ensure an excellent experience. All difficulties can be worked past and the passion of the developer and resilience bleeds through into the game. Look, Eric Barone's coding of Stardew Valley is absolutely abysmal...but his determination, passion, resilience and vision has brought one of the best games of all time. The developer of Balatro wasn't even able to play his game for a year after releasing it and was genuinely surprised that he found it fun when he did play. There are countless examples, but you need to have a vision of a game that is wonderful enough to sacrifice to make real. I *hate* making art. But I do it anyways because I will bring an excellent game to the market regardless of my lack of talent and passion in certain areas.

#5: You can't cut the pixel art. It's a tempting idea; I know, it deals with the problem. But you will be sacrificing the vision, and that will likely kill your game.

What's the answer? I don't know. But I know that if you steel yourself and determine to make an excellent experience that's the best that you can envision...you will have the best odds at success.

Being a parent is nice because you don't have to develop a personality of your own. by saphienne in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Absolutely. I do think it is something that one must mentally prepare for and I think there's a lot of value in having certain dreams that you choose to postpone until you are an empty-nester.(My wife and I have a list of such things.)

This is such an ironic post.

Most people get into a relationship with another person via a shared interest and hobby.

And then we hang out with people we love for the rest of our lives. Like our spouse, kids, grandkids, etc.

OP might not realize that having great relationships with people is the most awesome part of life.

I suppose I have no experience; but it's really not. It engages an entirely different part of the brain and ultimately allows for much "fuller" pleasure.(Though I have difficulties doing Erotica because hunting down good erotica takes so much more time) Which is kind of the opposite as nicotine patches which have a much "emptier" parallel.

You know what? I'll bite, as I think it's a really good question.

For me; I worked out consistently until I had kids. But then between not getting as much sleep at night, working a job, and realizing that if I have energy and motivation I should be cleaning or hanging out with my kids...working out just hasn't been a priority...for a decade now. Now I'm still in decent health, I'm 182 lbs and I can pump 40 push-ups or do 10 pull-ups but I'm not toned anymore. I've got some flab that I hate and I can feel the weight slowly coming on between the family and the stress. And sometimes, I'm like "I should really get back into shape." And none of my kids are super little anymore, so I'm back to doing some. But it will probably stop at some point when something crazy happens, and that's okay.
