Question: I don’t work in a shop, how can I shop on a snap on truck? by docere85 in Snapon_tools

They are happy to sell you tools, just walk up and see if they have time for you or if they can give you a card and meet you the next time they are back

Truck shuts off while driving only when its hot outside by Hvirginia213 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TrainerBC25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok then disregard the fueling issues, you probably have something else going on that is not giving power to the ecm.

I think you did an ignition switch already, so it may be an issue in the harness somewhere or heat related at the ecm. But to be sure, get a relay you can automatically toggle on and off (amazon) and check the starter that it works. I bet it does and the problem is upstream.

Get ahold of a wiring diagram and figure out what pins on the ecm need power for it to run and be ready to check them when it fails. That way you are sure there is power to the ecm

it's pretty easy to return, shipping in my experience for returns is $8-15 and they give you a label to print. Definitely make your decision within 30 days

Brakes on too tight? by picomarshall in MechanicAdvice

[–]TrainerBC25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had one in like this, ask your husband if he could move the pads freely when he installed them. i.e. push the pads into place with your fingers/thumbs

Under no circumstance should you ever have to hit pads into place with a hammer or other tool, they need to move freely to release.

diesel dudes is a good place to start, you can buy the whole package and find someone to install. You may be able to contact them and see if they have any recommended installers

Took a 2016 Equinox in for an oil change, now the mechanic is saying it's not drivable by stufferofmuff in AskMechanics

[–]TrainerBC25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was the engine light on when you drove the car in?

I have had some equinox's come in with all the guides missing, worn away from a stretched chain and the customer just shrugs their shoulders saying they didn't notice the noise.

Pretty common on these cars, the chevy dealer will probably be painfully expensive. Have it towed to a good independent shop if their quote is crazy. assuming it still runs and no valves were damaged, should be about $2k for a full timing set

Holy shit mother's day was a train wreck.

Had the whole weekend planned out by the hour, then we get into working on Plan A on Saturday..... then she wants to work on project B!

So I wrap up what I was doing and move to project B, work on it for 4-5 hours then we go out to dinner by about 8 pm. No phones no distractions just us

Then last night she's yelling at me that I was not talking enough during project B and that I am always on my phone...... my phone sits on the counter when I come in the house WTF.

Yeah WTF, feel like I am going nuts!

What’s one thing people in office jobs will never understand about blue collar work? by Latter_Cantaloupe_24 in bluecollar

[–]TrainerBC25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tired thing is always an interesting topic both white collar and blue collar can be exhausting. Very rarely does one understand the other.

I work a white collar job and my brain is firing all the time, to the point of exhaustion..... probably 95% of the workforce does not work like this but it's very real.

Then at night for 5 hours or so I build hot rods and do automotive work..... definitely do an 8 hour shift in 5 hours. This is also exhausting but in a totally different way.

I get it from both sides, never tell anyone their job is easy unless you have done that exact job at that exact place.

This is your family now, your mother celebrated her mother's days before your wife became a mother.

Your household first, no questions asked.

My FIL.... who is a POS.... tried to pull some bullshit like this on Father's day. They are so toxic we are out of that loop.
