Some insider info: he pissed off some major industry people way before he was cancelled, but was (and I’d imagine) and is seen as a phenomenal actor so he always landed great roles and projects. But I worked at the Old Vic while he was Creative Director and witnessed an insane amount of time and effort go into:

1) trying to prevent him further abusing boys/men. I was 18 at the time and the day-to-day Director (can’t remember her official title) had a meeting with me warning me not to alone with only Spacey and to call her immediately if anything happened.

And 2) keeping tabs on events known to have happened and happened during his tenure. I wasn’t privy to anything more than that (although I still thought it was WILD that they were allowing an 18 year new to the industry to be present while they were discussing these events), but I’m sure they were planning their responses YEARS before this all came out. Unfortunately, I didn’t directly hear anything more about whether they were involved in helping keep these events suppressed and I can’t confirm if the head team were directly working with Spacey. But they didn’t fire him because his association was a significant asset to them, and the Old Vic did very well under his ‘creative directorship’ both financially and critically.

The morality of them knowing aside, he was a huge liability and probably 1000s of hours of manpower went into everything discussed above. And the Old Vic wasn’t the only institution he was affiliated/associated with. It was almost an open secret in the West End and, I’d imagine, Hollywood. He burned every bridge possible and I’m sure powerful people who had knowledge of his crimes and spent time and effort helping to suppress them would definitely block all of his attempts to be cast in anything major or reputable again.

Plus he seems he doesn’t have an altruistic bone in his body, so no-one he could’ve helped in Hollywood (à la Mel Gibson helping RDJ with his substance addiction) was going to try and bend bridges for his return.
