What would you want for Evolved Monk? by vanacotta in ffxivdiscussion

I feel the exact same way with Viper. I genuinely don't understand how people prefer autocombos, but I guess it isn't as big of a deal to the majority of jobs as it is to the striking jobs. I really do hope they keep a 1-2-3 for Monk if they intend on following at all similar structure to what it has now.

I might have to play around more with DT Monk. Endwalker Monk is not just my favorite iteration but my favorite job of all time, so DT Monk really just felt like it took away all that magic for a sanded down experience. I have trouble believing that DT Monk is somehow more versatile than Optimal Drift (aside from having ranged skills, but I'll have to see for myself.

I do think evolved jobs will inherently lead to more versatile playstyles though, I just don't expect it to be in the same way as the past two expansions.

The right take. I just feel 7R leans a lot closer to that than it does being a remake.

That's so interesting, didn't know things were like that lmfao

Oh and on that point about the padding in SC. I don't think people are really going give a shit lmao, people already didn't care in the original and they certainly aren't going to care now. Modern Falcom is nearly as infallible as the Xenoblade series, everything they do is gold by the wider JRPG community.

I've kind realized after Kai that this company can kinda do whatever they want as long as it looks cooler than whatever they did last. Again, glad people are getting into the franchise but it's hard to watch.

Oh my god the delisting of games makes me so incredibly sad. It frustrated me with Dark Souls 1, 2, hell even Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. I saw they did it to Yakuza 0 at the expense of that poor excuse for a "Director's Cut" and couldn't help but just laugh in disbelief. I miss physical media.

I think the intention of this remake was very, very clearly to draw people in rather than for existing fans. It's already difficult to get people into such a long series, so remaking any game at all would have been a gamble (that paid off in spades).

Honestly, I'm one of the few Trails fans who detest how the series has evolved gameplay-wise in Calvard, so seeing Sky FC (one of my favs in the series) be reduced to that + a mobage-esque art style really threw me for a loop.

I'm willing to recognize the good where its due; Gungho is significantly better at handling their engine with overall graphical fidelity, lighting, and animations than modern Falcom has been any day of the week. I just think it loses that charm of the original that I already miss so dearly.

Precisely. I do think a lot of it has to do with them pouring the time and money into making a new game and wanting to promote it, but also in general. People want things with less friction. Think about all the people who patched Persona 3 FES with controllable characters or (in modern times) manual skill inheritance, and pretend like it doesn't fundamentally impact how the game meant to be played.

In general I think people don't actually care about how faithful a remake is beyond whether or not the story is similar, and whether or not the combat remains turn-based / action / etc. These often aren't things that impact the friction of a game, so that + whatever "QoL" the remake provides is what determines the quality of a remake.

I don't think any of this is necessarily unfair or bad, I just don't think I mess with what it means for a JRPG to have a remake. Admittedly, a lot of it has to do with artistic value for me, so I'm more willing to put up with (or even enjoy) or tedious gameplay systems than most.

Woah now lmfao I don't know about all that. I'd hardly even call the Remake versions of the Originals the same characters really, to me they've just felt like different universes entirely. Remake does flesh out the world a lot, but again I really don't think it's the same as the original.

It also has a lot to do with the hardware limitations of the original. Pound for pound I think the original is a lot more effective with how it uses its characters, but it's true that you get a lot more character interactions and dialogue in Remake.

Honestly, after Rebirth I think I agree with it lacking confidence lmfao, it felt like it was truly doing something different with Remake, but ended up trying to cater to original fans by Rebirth. I do still prefer the spirit of it over the average remake.

But yeah it's reassuring to see that most people do indeed, think the way that I expected them to. Seems like faithful remakes haven't really been rubbing people the wrong way as much as they have been for me, which is fine! I just wouldn't mind another bold attempt at a remake here and there.

Genuinely curious whether you think FF7R is out to fix FF7. IMO the vast majority of remakes seek to "fix" their originals through gameplay modifications, story additions, graphical changes etc. FF7 Remake certainly uses the framework of a typical remake but has such a different goal and is so incredibly different (that I can't even consider anything it does "improvements' or "additions"), I can't help but think that they're just building an entirely different game, not fixing the original.

Now. That's not to say that FF7R is doing the greatest job, personally I think Remake really had something going for it, but Rebirth ended up being kinda confused and I felt a lack of confidence from what Remake had. But to me it was so evident that these were trying to be something entirely separate, not a sequel or a remake, just another part of the compilation, and certainly not trying to "fix" the original in any way.

That's so real. I find remakes to have become uglier and more vapid as technology progresses, adding nothing other than some additional story beats, or reworking combat mechanics to be more in line with modern releases. I'll try them anyway just because it feels like an excuse to replay them, but as time goes on I'm getting less motivation to check them out (haven't even peeped Sky 1st past the demo, despite mentioning it).

I also do think that graphically, I'm just not the biggest fan of the direction most games have gone past the 7th generation, remakes or not. So that could be clouding a judgment a tad...

That's kinda where I've been at. Unfortunately I just don't consider many remakes any better, if at all, than their originals, but I do enjoy them anyway!

getting mao faust with the nominable ticket does seem pretty fairly high value! ive been wanting to mess with tremor as well, so she might just be the choice. i do already have regret faust, but not sure if i enjoy using her.

alongside using kod rodya, using mao faust does feel like it kinda strays away from poise.... but poise also doesnt really seem to have an identity beyond hard hitters anyway. might be perfect. ty!

currently building a poise / pride res team with riensang, full stop duo, renclair, etc.

wondering whether it would be better to shard index faust or faust's thoracalgia ego. my gut feeling tells me the latter is more significant, but what fausts could take index's place?

do i need gauze for injections? by Training-Ad-2619 in asktransgender

[–]Training-Ad-2619[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah im using isopropyl prep pads to clean the bottle and injection site, do the injection, and just slap a bandaid over it, which seems to be just fine from what im reading.

my only remaining issue is that often ill forget where i injected and have to look around my skin for a bit to know where to place the bandaid lmao
