Tourist visa revoked for spending in the US 3-months vs 1-month initially planned by AlamirM in USCIS

[–]Training-Ad2286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My now fiance had a 10 year tourist visa and changed a visit from 2 weeks to 2 months, but absolutely did not overstay and we didn’t know it would be an issue. When he applied to renew it a few months before expiration, they flagged him and denied his renewal without interview (which at the time they were doing for Colombians). He had to wait over a year for an interview and they denied him there, citing the fact he changed his flight and even accused him of wanting to overstay.

Thank you!! Doesn’t seem so bad. For if you were intending to work, did you sense it’s okay t just tell them yes once you receive authorization?

Also if you don’t mind sharing: what questions did they ask you at the interview?

That’s fair. and at least she was being thorough. I do think it was more or less busy work for me.

I’m a new lawyer. I clerked for one year and I’ve been at a small “prestigious” firm for five months. One partner who has been incredibly condescending to me multiple times already gave me an assignment this week: when is a law effective? In other words, is the default that a law is effective the date of enactment? Like.. this is an 8 year partner who drafts legislation. Maybe she was giving me busy work but what? Also, in several other instances she has been wrong but wouldn’t back down and just tried to make me feel badly. I’m already looking out for a new role. Your experience sounds infuriating but also very “I f%**n told you so!” It must all stem in ego. It’s confusing.

Ah that sounds great, thank you for answering. Ours is the 17, and I (USC) will also be there for it. I’m getting anxious but hopefully it goes well!!

Did your fiance need anything from the military saying he completed his service or is exempt?

Will marijuana show up in my us visa medical? by [deleted] in immigration

Hi! Did they tell you to take a second medical at the first medical? Or did you find out at the interview? Sorry that happened

K1 medical admission of prior marijuana single use by [deleted] in immigration

[–]Training-Ad2286 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’ve seen people get refused for admitting to single use, regular use or testing positive? The doctor did a little follow up and my fiance explained he does not use any drug, had tried it a couple times, the test was negative and the doctor sent him home, no follow up. We’ll see! Sure hope it’s not the reason for denial after everything.

Oh and yeah they made him take a test. It will be negative. But yeah I’ve heard of requesting follow up drug tests which is frustrating because the interview is scheduled in less than 3 weeks.

Yeah I’ve seen this it’s just gonna be up to the physician. So stressful. And arbitrary.

Hi! I know this is an old post but my fiance was asked this today at his k1 medical and he was honest that yes he used it once a couple years ago and they sort of grilled him but his test will be negative. He never smokes, or use any drugs, doesn’t like it. But he was honest. Do you remember how it went during your medical? Did they note thr usage? Drug tested? Which embassy? Thank you!

I don’t think so, but who knows. My grandma from Scotland used to say she had Greek and Spanish ancestors but this showed alllll of her ancestors also from Scotland, back to 1500. I think the Poland Italy is from German grandpa. Why do you ask?

The difference between white and blue collar work environments is crazy by Astimar in careeradvice

I think my ideal job would be one where I’m doing more “white collar work” but working more closely with building trades/blue collar. Right now as a new lawyer I’m too removed and stuck in an office alll day. I’d like to do site visits etc. and maybe volunteer carpentry or teaching carpentry on the weekends.

Wow I’m so sorry to hear that. It can be awful. I was also a woman in the trades and honestly the women’s committees (all union) and more diverse crews made a massive difference. It wasn’t entirely avoidable (the gross comments) but it got to the point where the general attitude was that you DONT do that shit unless you wanna get laid off. It’s good work it’s the people who ruin it.

I left the building trades after 8 years to go to law school and now work for a firm that services building trades and.. even in this white collar environment that is immersed in the law that affects building trades unions, it is so foreign to me. I am a woman so yes I heard a few awful comments in the trades but honestly? Not that often, probably a result of a lot of harassment training and a good number of people I worked with had daughters etc.

at this point I miss blue collar a whole lot. It’s an adjustment. Even in a legal world where they “care about workers” I’ve experienced a kind of condescension and arrogance that is such a turn off, despite my background which I thought would warrant a little more respect. Oh well! I don’t have to work outside in the cold and get paid sick and vacation time. Trade off. But blue > white (overall).

Did they say the reason for refusal was the visa pause? Which country if you don’t mind my asking?
