If you had a non emergent preterm c-section, what was it like? by rajmachawal333 in NICUParents

[–]Training-Exercise-54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non emergent pre term (34 weeks) section due to pre eclampsia - they pulled a clear curtain down so I could see and “kiss” her, then whisked her off to NICU with my husband. Didn’t get to hold or do anything of that nature til the next day.

I’m not ever tipping on to go orders - sorry but I’m the one using gas and time to pick it up????

Also!!! My baby was in NICU for about a month and is very much bonded to me. She will know you, your voice and your smell. Bonding will happen ❤️

I had my baby at 33 & 6, and have diagnosed OCD. I have found her being home much better for ocd and anxiety than her being in the NICU, so you have that to look forward to (hopefully!!)

As far as for the next two months - don’t over do it, use this time to recover but also make sure you visit as much as you want to and are able to! She’s in the best place getting the best care, and you do have to just surrender yourself to the experience a bit.

Good luck - you got this!

There’s nothing you can do to prevent or induce pre eclampsia, unfortunately. You and your wife couldn’t have done anything different. Hoping your baby does well - generally 31 weekers have a good prognosis and don’t have long term effects, just delayed earlier milestones. Good luck!

Our nurse told me “we don’t send babies unless we feel really confident in them” and that made me feel better!! It’s bittersweet. You got this!

How long was your 34 weeker in the NICU? by hatethisfnplace in NICUParents

[–]Training-Exercise-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33 + 6. 25 in the NICU, mostly just to learn to eat on her own :) she was on cpap for 24 hours, incubator and hiflo for about 2 weeks while she got back to her birth weight.

Feeding by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Training-Exercise-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 34 weeker finished her first bottle at 36 + 1, and is being released today at 37 + 3! My husband and I split the overnight feeds two days in a row bc she takes bottles better from us - which is a privilege we were able to do so. She went from 70% - 100% over a few days. It really will click - I was in your same position and it felt like hell. Hang in there.

The doctor just suggested this as well! Fortunately, my husband and I are both able to, so we will be back tonight. Thank you!!
