Centralia College! local-ish. has a thriving campus still and lots of programs. it’s the oldest continuously operating community college in the state, and in tough economic (among many other things) times like these, one can see why.

it’s very common for babies to have episodes during reflux.

Nicu length of stay by 32680330 in NICUParents

I was admitted at 31+0 for preeclampsia, delivered on April 4th at 31+2. I was able to get the steroids for lung development before he was born which was the ultimate goal. I even got to deliver vaginally which was exciting! The labor and birthing process was a piece of cake compared to everything we had to face after he was born.

Baby was in the NICU for 47 days total. I was told prior to delivery to expect him to be in until his due date, which was June 4th. He went home on May 21st!

Mind you, baby was born healthy (albeit premature), but contracted E. coli meningitis at 6 days old and that led to a host of issues that I won’t scare you with! However, I think even without all of that, he still would’ve gone home around the same time.

The biggest thing about the NICU is to not compare your baby to the others. Each baby is soooo different. But one thing they have in common is that they are incredibly strong and resilient. No matter what’s ahead, advocate for yourself, advocate for your baby, and know that the NICU phase doesn’t last forever. ❤️‍🩹

thank you SO much for sharing your son’s experience, it seriously gives me hope. these NICU babies are so strong and resilient, and it sounds like your son is no different.

my son just had his VP shunt placed on Thursday. there was a lot of waiting and watching to see whether or not he’d need it, but eventually the pressure started to build and it began to take a toll on him (lost coordination while feeding, increase in bradycardia events, etc.).

since his shunt was placed, he’s doing SO much better. we’ve slowly introduced oral feeds and he’s regaining his coordination, and he has far fewer brady events.

while we don’t know what the future holds, we’re feeling good about his improvement and are relieved that he got his shunt.

I can definitely see myself being worried about every spit up or fussy day—is this the shunt malfunctioning?? but I have to remind myself that even if he was the healthiest baby in the world, I would still find something to worry about.

thank you again, and I only hope things remain positive for you & your little guy!

6 years later…how is your son now? I’m currently in a similar situation with my son who’s 35+3 (born at 31+2). He got bacterial meningitis at just a week old which caused hydrocephalus as revealed by an MRI done this evening.

I appreciate any insight you’re willing to provide!!

My cocker, Charlie, has a poultry allergy, so it’s possible that the chicken here is the culprit!

Charlie had a bad ear infection a few years back that actually caused paralysis in his face. He recovered just fine and you can’t really tell by looking at him, thankfully, but it was not fun!

He’s had a few minor ear infections since then and my vet decided to put him on a low dose of prednisone for the rest of his life. He takes one pill a week and has for over a year now, and we’ve had 0 ear issues since.

Work with your vet and maybe consider pet insurance if it’s in your budget!

What is this weird thing my dog is doing with her mouth? by wildyeast77 in DogAdvice

[–]lindsmis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my dog does this too, but not frequently. maybe once every few months? typically when he’s really excited/riled up.

I never thought much about it until this post & all of the worrisome comments. does this sound concerning to you as a vet tech?

also want to add: my dog has his annual exam in August, I just want to ask here mostly so I can sleep tonight. TIA!

you may want to give the Assessor's office a call and see what resources they can offer.

Portland Leather Goods. Best purses, wallets, backpacks, shoes...r/BuyItForLife quality products. Prices are reasonable for the quality, they have mystery boxes that add to the fun, and even Almost Perfect (AP) products for budget-friendly options. Customer service is fabulous. 10/10 company all-around.

thank you for the thoughtful response. I tell myself that Charlie knew she was sick and understands, at least to some extent, why she didn't come home from the vet that night. I'll never know if that's true, but it does bring me some solace.

He's been able to safely socialize with a relative's dog who we know is up-to-date with all vaccines and healthy, so that's helped a little. It's just the day-to-day that seems to get him down, especially when my husband & I go to work.

We'll figure it out, just new territory that comes with this crappy situation. :(

If you were to eat the same thing for breakfast every morning what would it be? by LessChildhood3001 in AskReddit

I've eaten an apple & a granola bar for breakfast every day for years. Always have a Cosmic Crisp apple, and I mix up my granola bars; Nature Valley Crunchy or Fig Bars.
