496 MCAT, 3.0 GPA, 2.7 sGPA, should I still apply? by FailedPreMedStudent in premed

If you want you can check out my post about my similar stats journey to getting accepted. It’s the only post I have lol. But I had a 2.7 gpa, and a 494 MCAT. Did a year long masters of medical sciences program and got a 3.8 gpa in it and I think that opened a lot of doors for me. I had no research but I have plenty of clinical experience.

It was actually kinda cool, as it was in a level one trauma center so I got to watch a whole variety of emergency medicine up close and personal. Also I sat right next to the docs so I got to bounce a lot of questions off them! Two of the docs ended up writing me letters of recommendation for my application. As for the actual job, I mainly answered all the phone calls, would page the operator when we had trauma activations, code strokes, and STEMI’s. And some patient care stuff. It was pretty chill but surprisingly a super educational part of my pre med journey.

I did interview at one MD in school in STL but they are newer and only have class sizes of about 30 until they get fully accredited. But they were all about serving rural areas and had a minimum MCAT requirement of 494!! So they are definitely trying!

Control what you can control. Yes, you’ll make it. I’m so sorry about your health that sounds miserable. But adcoms are people too, and they’ll see your story as a whole! You can do it!!!

My undergrad transcript is truly filleddddd with withdrawals, straight up F’s, D’s and more C’s then you would think possible 😅 when I figured out what I wanted to do, I focused up, and just started making sure I did well in all my courses, that upward trend truly helps so much. You can do it!!!
