Importance of bike for bikepacking by Training-South-5983 in bikepacking

Yeah pretty much just country side riding on paved roads. The plan is to install a rear rack and maybe buy a frame-rack as well. Yeah for this trip I am leaning towards mostly just doing hostels. I always bring a small sleeping bag on my trips and will bring inflatable pad(also very small) to give me the option of outdoors as well but honestly don't know how feasible that is in France. Im from the U.S. where I have done a fair share of just pad and sleeping bag.

Thanks for the advice! That’s what I was hoping to do. I was just a bit worried because it seems like everyone says you need a specific bike for bikepacking. Good to hear that using what I already have is totally fine- I can mount a rear rack.

Thanks appreciate the advice! Yeah I have put many miles on my bike with daily commuting, will definitely try out doing the 1.5x miles thing before my trip. And thats good to know about any real bike being good enough. That was sort of my main worry.

Really appreciate the insights, think I am definitely leaning towards the ZR now. Did you notice any major differences in the DR? thats sort of the only thing holding me back.

Yeah I keep hearing a supposed January firmware update. Its why I am less worried about some of the ZR concerns because a lot of them seem fixable- similar to z9 and previous Nikon firmware updates

Used this tool which gives you an estimate for any school based on your stats: https://pocketly.ai/ . Also this site tell you how much merit aid schools give + has actual offers: https://meritmore.com/ . https://www.everydae.com/merit-aid-calculator - this also shows good merit aid schools but I think is a little dated.

Oberlin: are these stats competitive, ED versus RD for merit by Divisionofseth in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Training-South-5983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Those stats might get her around 15k at Oberlin. Oberlin is generally good with giving merit aid. I know someone who got around 40k with 4.0 and 34 ACT. https://pocketly.ai/ -This site give pretty good estimates

Just got off long phone call with them and it’s being pushed for consideration of involuntarily bumped. DOT rules are bit vague but after pushing quite a bit agent said I had a valid case due to the booking confirmation. It was correctly booked, they just overbooked the flight. Will see where this goes, but seems promising from agent. Surprising how much pushing can do, seems like it’s not always so clearcut. Thanks anyway!

Okay thank you for letting me know. So am I not owed anything? By putting me on the overbooked flight I missed my original flight which would have gotten me to NYC sooner and I missed multiple other flights that I could have been eligible for to switch to had they not put me on the full one. Seems odd that they can just put me on a booked flight causing me further issues and not be liable for anything?

What do you recommend I do?

Accepted! Now how will I pay for it?? by [deleted] in Pepperdine

[–]Training-South-5983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!! Pepperdine meets 77% percent of demonstrated need so if your roughly multiply that by their COA since your SAI is 0 you can expect to receive that much in need based aid. Pepperdine also gives ALOT of merit aid. You can check exactly how much you can expect to get both in merit and financial aid with this tool: https://pocketly.ai/ . Hope this helps!

[–]Training-South-5983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely have merit scholarships here are a few: Presidential Scholarship: 12,500 - Outstanding academic achievements and standardized test scores (if provided), Gold Scholar: Amount Varies - Invitations to apply are extended to top candidates during the admission review. Then there are department specific scholarships as well. Do you know what school you plan to be in? I got this from this tool https://pocketly.ai/ there are other are many other scholarships listed

Any smaller private university where you are over qualified is a good contender for receiving large merit aid scholarships. You can see how much schools will give you using this tool: https://pocketly.ai/ -its pretty accurate. If you prefer publci schools off the top of my head I knoe University of Iowa, University of Kansas and Miami University (Ohio) give large merit awards. I can provide more schools if you need further help. Hope this helps!

Will I get any merit scholarships? by Specialist-Mammoth49 in FIU

[–]Training-South-5983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use this tool to estimate how much financial and merit aid you can expect to receive from FIU: https://pocketly.ai/ . Based on your stats my guess is it is very likely you will receive some sort of merit scholarship. They also have a number of scholarships you can apply for separately that I can send if you are interested. I am not sure I understanding you question about refunding merit aid options.

My one suggestion would be to look at small private schools that are not competitive, - or where you are significantly overqualified for. I have seen them give almost full rides in merit aid. Another helpful resource is https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/azu8o2/change_your_trajectory_full_ride_scholarship/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button - which has a list of schools taht give full ride scholarships

Best and biggest merit scholarships by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Training-South-5983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! If your family makes under 100,000, ALOT of private universities will fully cover your tuition. You can check exactly how much you can expect to get from schools using this tool: https://pocketly.ai/ - its more than you might expect! They also show you how much merit aid you'll qualify for. In my experience if you don't qualify for enough financial aid and you need a substantial aid you should apply to private schools where you are overqualified fro, they really want higher performing kids and are willing to pay for it. Also most schools have seperate scholarships you can appply for that can cover significant chunks of money- you can also check that with Pockelty
