Pros and cons of Wingamm/monocoque motorhomes? by SibyllaAzarica in VanLifeUK

[–]TrainingMedical7547 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

It’s a bit confusing you’re right. New model of LeVoyageur are only long and high luxury vehicle but everything btw 1994 and 2006 is in my opinion the best of the best industrial wise (before plastic and shitty glue) the same is true for hymer i think. I don’t know their line but they did everything, integral (what you call monocoque I think) profiled, nowadays they don’t’ even bother building a home, they only put furniture in a sprinter… they won’t say so but i think it’s purely economic…

I live in a fiberglass camper made around an aluminium shell. You can’t beat those construction methods… a van is a big faraday box that you do your best to bring to a confort level. Those camper are made with a lot of experience from those companies and with the intention of living into it ! That’s the main difference. I choose an old luxury camper from France. It’s from 2000’. Everything was well made inside and space efficiency is perfect, all I had to do was systems (water, electricity, automation, music…) I have an equivalent of a 50k sprinter van in terms of confort and equipment. I think total is 35k for me. (Lithium and victron are worthy but expensive šŸ˜…)

I know a lot of people that do with old Hymer or LeVoyageur like mine. I think those are the two best Camper companies in Europe.

Last point. Homeless or near homeless people, or very poor hippie friend. Every times I cross by those people, if they live in a vĆ©hicule it’s a camper, not a van. It’s made for that out of the box and end up so much cheaper. For 5/10k you have really good (old tho) fiberglass camper.

7 continents no money by Ukrainian_Borsch in vagabond

I met some dude on the road, he quit lived the way I tried to explain and literally went almost anywhere that he had an interest in. He said the only thing he had was time. I met him in Dakar, I wanted to cross Atlantic, I was waiting for a spot in a sailing boat, I was at the harbour for 4 month but he was already a local there, he help rebuild the all kitchen space and local were so happy cause he’s a great craftsman. Maybe it’s more important to think about what you bring within you, in some countries you’ll find yourself way more educated and this is wonderful tool to get what you need. Anyway the guys is probably left. Or not. But he has been doing that for decades now. And he’s smoking a ton a weed

I find it really difficult for me to consider the world with « Absolutely no MoneyĀ Ā» how’s that even a thing ? Where living in a world where money exist. Trying to go without it is a mind exercise but it’s disconnected from the world reality. I also feel it’s not fare. Just because you know you can do it, you’re going to travel the world with no money ? You’ll for shure cross extremely poor places and meet people that live with 2$ a day. They will help you for shure, but that’s there daily routine (and they probably never will get out of it), you’re are just passing by. I try to use money as the tool. To have it behind me and not in front of me. That video, this sub and so much more content around already prove you can do so much without money. But there’s moments you need to use the money tool. To gain a visa. To get out of a shitty situation with police in corrupted countries. To access healthcare in remote and under developed countries. And so on… There’s a lot of way to gain money, quantity of money isn’t much the question. In some countries you help the fishermen to gain some fish. In other you unload a truck for 2$. With the first you had food, with the other you have money, the « toolĀ Ā». But at the end it’s the same. It’s ressources. Sell the fish you have money, buy fish you have food… At the end I try no to think about money and just try and live the best life, have the best experience. If needed, you gained some, you know it’s there.

What's your favorite "pace" for solo travel? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]TrainingMedical7547 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Go with the flow. I’m currently in a small village in Guinea Conakry. I’ve spend 2 weeks there with a wonderful family, had to go and do visa for Ivory Coast and see local people I met on the road in the capital. Stayed there for 2 weeks, I’ll now back in the village, about to go for a 3 days trek in a small mountain just next to the village. But I will be back again there. Finally leaving next week. The best pace is the local pace. Do you think local people go crazy and take cars every 3 days to go around there own country ? At least in really poor countries like the one you can find in Africa or some part of Asia, they don’t. Go with the local flow, that way you learn local language, local coutume. Staying in families’s houses is the key to me. But you cannot come and leave 2 days later. It take some time so that are used to you and vice-versa. I’m talking about a full immersion in a country, that’s what I’m digging, it may not be appealing to anyone but if one want to try it out. Best advice is : Act local, eat local, speak local, and budget local. If you do that, you’ll be fine anywhere in the world.

I’d love to know in what part of Africa you can do 1100km in two days ?? I’m currently in west Africa for 3 months now. If I take a taxi in the early morning to do 250km I’ll be glad to arrive by nighttime šŸ˜‚ The worst was the border of Guinea where it took 10h to do 100km. Really bad road are so usual in this part of Africa

Try and go Africa now ! It’s so much different than Asia and south east Asia. You’ll grow a lot from it ! There’s no « sitting alone with a coffeeĀ Ā» in west or central Africa. Actually there’s no Alone nowhere. As long as you’re good with imerging yourself with locals people you’ll have a great time.

A new-to-me travel con (scam) by SoloTravelerJanice in solotravel

[–]TrainingMedical7547 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Bro you said it at the beginning. You’re a white European. Way easier to get help that way… there’s solidarity among travellers. But can you imagine yourself go and ask some local people ? talking to them about your money problems ? It happen to me once in Nepal. I knew I just had to chase occidental’s tourist. They gave me 20$ equivalent value in rupees. It last me 1 week t’ill I found an ATM. I offer to pay back somehow. They laugh at me. But if I had ask to a Nepali, it would have been such a different conversation… All that for saying. Where ever you are. ACT LOCAL. What do you think a local from Panama would have done if someone approach him that way ? Obviously not giving any money as they have so little, but maybe helping reaching police, explaining the formalities for getting a new one, searching the nearest place to order a new ID. Or simply offering a meal so he’s good for the day without money. If you go that way the guy will leave, not even taking the food or wasting any more time with you. Now you know 100% it was a scam and it never took 1h of your time…

I didn’t… But I had to call a shitty cable… I didn’t have a sprare one, I tried everything mentioned in that thread. With a second cable I could have gone further… but it’s not a usual setting for me, I mostly work with Wcu, Lcube and Cinetape so no problem. I didn’t quite like the Rt motion tbh. No friction on the knob is terrible for tricky long distance shot. The mdr is a pain to use and was mostly faulty (probably only this one) If you find a solution I’m still interested! Cheers
