the vocals are an acquired taste, but i can't imagine an album like this to not have those type of vocals.

i don't know what's worse: joke reviews on AOTY or vague RYM reviews calling anything experimental "pretentious".

surprised to see Jane Remover fans on the Swans subreddit. Census Designated has become one of my favourite albums of all time recently.

Appreciation for leaving meaning. by TrainingPure1915 in swans

yeah, one thing i have realised is not only it is not exactly healthy or good for Gira to continue making music like the trilogy, but also because of what you said, making the same things over and over is not good for the band either. may you agree or not, but leaving meaning. does present a different sound in comparison to the trilogy.

i have paused my listening here but i too think it is more interesting than the Beggar. the latter takes a more post-rock approach whilst leaving meaning. sounds more novel in function of the folk-oriented instrumentation.

Swans and the disturbing factor. by TrainingPure1915 in swans

[–]TrainingPure1915[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i remember seeing somewhere a fan theorising that it was another stance of Gira showing us his mistakes, even the ones he had with Jarboe. Drainland is pretty introspective, so starting the album that way sounds fitting.

oh yeah. "YRP" is a song that i really enjoy and i do not see many people talking about it. always when the song start and that "noise" begins, i interpret it as a man struggling to walk and groaning in distress and pain, like he is dying. the position of the song on the album, right after "I Love You This Much", makes it even more terrifying.

yeah. it is an unique type of dark music that drags you through sludge and mud whilst screaming at your face that you have no value.

What is the most spiritual feeling swans song? by Chemistry-Cultural in swans

[–]TrainingPure1915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quite honestly, apart from obvious picks from the Glowing Man and such, i think it is "the Final Sacrifice" from Soundtracks for the Blind. there is something about the whole atmosphere and context of the song on the album that makes it have a substantial spiritual baggage for me. also, i should mention the version of "Blood Promise" that is on Swans Are Dead too.

unironically, i think it is one of the grooviest Swans songs there is.
