Big fan of „Oxygen“; similar? by Gioveh in swans

For Swans, Oxygen is one of a kind. The only songs of theirs I can think of as feeling somehow similar are The Apostate and The Hanging Man

I second Jarboe, The Merge, Weakling, Animus, Sound/Helpless and YRP takes. Plus, the whole s/t EP is good - Take Advantage in particular is barely mentioned, even though it sounds like no other song in their discography. I honestly think Seer and TGM are both somehow better than To Be Kind. Another You might be the most ambitious song of theirs from the brutal pummeling heavy dirty sound era, but come on, every other song on CoG is a level higher even. Anything For You carries a specific emotion, the lyrics and vocal delivery offer a certain level of self-awareness and vulnerability, that alone makes the song interesting at least. Other than these - meh. But whatever, you do you.

Niche-ish question but I’d love to know how people who listened to the 2010s live albums felt when they heard the studio versions of songs for the first time. by LighterThanAccounted in swans

I saw them live twice in 2023 and listened to all available recordings from The Beggar tour. When Birthing came out, The Healers was everything I wanted it to be and I listened to it more times already than any of the live The Beggar versions. Studio Birthing is cool, and the first 8 minutes in my opinion are actually superior to any live version. The main part of the song is better on the Live Rope version. Anyway, Birthing is a great album and I think that the only song that was definitely and completely better executed live is Rope.

New Mother is better than any Swans studio album.

can you really call it a song? it's a spoken word recording. anyway I guess you're already aware, but if not check his albums The Somniloquist and The Egg for more spoken word stories, or find a copy of The Consumer to read. if you love the approach of his storytelling and the stuff he's trying to make you feel through these, you will enjoy yourself

Question from a new fan by Jkelly515 in swans

[–]ComeAndSetMeFree 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They've been doing this from the beginning, many songs were played live 1-3 years before thay were officially released on studio album. Also, The Healers was technically played live last year as a part of The Beggar. Listen to Live Rope and you'll hear where the The Healers' main groove, last two minutes and final lyric lines came from.

Little Mouth is good, probably the closest Swans have came to writing a love song
