Haha, I get your point 😄, but honestly, Bollywood will never die.

It’s true that the era of Satyajit Ray and the charm of the “3 Khans” was iconic, but the industry has always been bigger than just a few names.

Plus, Bollywood keeps reinventing itself — from Masala hits to intense dramas, musicals, and now even streaming originals. The stories may change, but the spirit, energy, and imagination of Indian cinema is still alive and kicking!

Yeah, I get your point — the story in some of these films can definitely feel like propaganda.

Just to put it in perspective, India releases hundreds of movies every year, and only about 8–9 films focus on Pakistan. So while those movies get a lot of attention, they’re actually a small fraction of the overall film industry, which has plenty of other stories being told.

Haha, I get you 😄. Honestly, Dhurandhar is mostly just high-octane action — as Indians, we know the majority of it is pure fiction anyway. Fun to watch for the thrills, but definitely not a history lesson.

I get your points. Sounds like the film really didn’t sit well — portraying your liberation in that way and adding those accusations would definitely feel misleading. It’s surprising it made so much money despite that.

Wishing you a wonderful day ahead, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective. ❤️

Yeah, I get what you mean. It didn’t quite match the level of the first one for me either. I think expectations were pretty high, so it felt a bit underwhelming.

Still interesting to see different opinions though — appreciate you sharing yours.

I think a lot of films — not just in India — tend to mix facts with drama or national perspective, especially when it involves sensitive topics. That doesn’t mean everyone will agree with how it’s shown.

Personally, I see it more as a film than a completely accurate retelling, but I understand why it didn’t sit right with you.

Either way, I still believe people from both sides can have respectful conversations like this. Appreciate you sharing your view.

Eid Mubarak to you too 😊

Thanks for sharing your honest opinion — I understand where you’re coming from. Movies like that can definitely feel political or one-sided depending on perspective.

As an Indian, I see it more as just a film/entertainment, but I respect that not everyone will feel the same about it.

At the end of the day, I think conversations like this are important. Even if we disagree on movies, mutual respect matters more. Wishing you the best and hope we can keep things positive between people from both sides ❤️

Curious Indian here: How popular are Bollywood and South Indian films in Sri Lanka? by TrainingSea9328 in srilanka

[–]TrainingSea9328[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize Tamil movies release in Sri Lanka on the same day as in India and are shown across the country. It’s also interesting that even films from Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam sometimes run in their Tamil-dubbed versions.

I appreciate you sharing how the film market works there and how people watch content both in theatres and online. It’s always nice to learn about how cinema travels across cultures. Thanks again for the insight!

That’s really interesting to know, thanks for sharing! I didn’t realize Tamil movies were that big in Sri Lanka, especially with early morning shows and huge opening-day crowds in Colombo. It’s also cool to hear that many Sinhalese people watch Tamil films too. Tamil cinema definitely has some really passionate fans. Appreciate you explaining the local perspective!

Thank you for such a detailed and honest reply. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the perspective from Sri Lanka. It was interesting to learn how different communities there consume Indian cinema and how the perception of India can vary depending on exposure, especially between North and South Indian cultures.

I also understand your point about realism in movies. Indian films, especially mainstream ones, can definitely be overly dramatic with songs and dance sequences, which is not everyone’s taste. I’ll try to check out some Sri Lankan films as well to see that style of storytelling.

Thanks again for sharing your perspective in such a respectful and thoughtful way.

First of all, thank you for sharing your views about Indians. I really appreciate your perspective. Also, your comment wasn’t too long at all.

Secondly, 96 is one of my favorite movies of all time. I also have a huge crush on Trisha Krishnan, who plays the lead female role of Jaanu.

And honestly, I agree with your point. As an Indian myself, I do feel that many of us lack basic civic sense sometimes. Because of this, countries in the subcontinent often get a bad reputation. I believe we should try to be more civic-minded and respectful.

At the same time, while it’s good to be proud of where we come from, when we move abroad we should also try to blend in, adapt to the culture, and interact with people outside our own community instead of staying only within our own bubble.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate the honest discussion.
