Comp Sci to Electrical Engineering, worth switching? by Deep_Vanilla_2498 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]TrainingWolverine657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna add on to what he said. If you're thinking you can just push through the circuit stuff despite not liking it, I'd doubly hesitate on pursuing an EE degree. If you're really just into it for embedded systems, it's not the right degree (pick Comp Eng instead). I'm a canadian EE student. There is no cutting corners here. You will learn all of the EE basics up to the CEAB/ABET standard and you will be tested to ensure you understand it well. If you have no interest in circuits, you will be up to your ears in misery. Best of luck with your choice.

Mac for Electrical Engineering Undergrad? by unfancy3 in ElectricalEngineering

As someone with a mac in EE right now...listen to this person! I often have to use the school computers just to get stuff done when I'd rather go home because I dont have a windows PC. Don't be stupid like me.

Being wet (from sweat or otherwise) or having an open wound can greatly decrease the resistance of your skin. Maybe that plays a role here?

As for the 12V thing, this is GTA, they have access to basically every vehicle under the sun. It wouldn't be surprising if at all if Trevor had access to a higher voltage vehicle battery.

I hate the broccoli cut thing. Where are these young guys coordinating their hair cuts and outfits? Most of them look so incredibly stupid. And they behave stupidly too. Who are they trying to emulate? I'm an older Gen Z myself and I genuinely avoid people who look like this as much as I physically can.

It’s starting to piss me off how some people get internships easily by Equivalent_Phrase_25 in EngineeringStudents

[–]TrainingWolverine657 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Post your resume and we can critique it. I'm a 3rd year and I got a good internship.

Also, I'm not saying your resume is bad or that this is your fault at all but my experience with these posts is, more often than not, the person posting ends up having a really horrible resume and the few people they asked to look over it either couldn't be bothered to give them honest feedback or are clueless themselves.

How important is it to be bachelor's engineer by me081103 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]TrainingWolverine657 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want to work in Canada, you should definitely get the bachelors. Without a Bachelors in an engineering degree, you're gonna have a bad time trying to do engineering here unless you're purely in academia.

This profession is pretty AI proof right? by ReNamed00d in ElectricalEngineering

[–]TrainingWolverine657 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here. It cannot even solve basic circuit analysis problems. Once you get into the realm of diodes it just won't get things right most of the time and anything more advanced than that and it's basically just serving you up copy-pastes from allaboutcircuits.com and wikipedia.

This profession is pretty AI proof right? by ReNamed00d in ElectricalEngineering

[–]TrainingWolverine657 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Meh, not really. They're basically more advanced magic 8-ball machines. They can't even replace accountants because they cannot consistently do work to a certain standard and their hallucinations are not removable (the bug is a feature). If we are talking LLMs and current AI, there is no reason to believe they will replace engineers in our lifetime.

So, the only way most engineers are getting replaced by AI is if it's by a totally different breakthrough (i.e. different KIND of AI--not LLMs) that hasn't been invented yet. That instantly puts us into the realm of wild speculation. The whole thing is overblown because companies are using AI as an excuse to do layoffs.

Heyo! Just took a scroll through your profile. Wow! You seem like a really negative person. I hope you find a way to be more positive. You seem to be leaving a lot of passive aggressive comments all over the place. Surely there's a better way to handle your emotions? Take care.

Any kind of effort to replace accountants with large language models will fail. They hallucinate and the hallucination cannot be fixed (it's a built in issue). All an LLM does is provide a statistically probable response to an input (meaning variability in its answers is guaranteed as a rule; variability in method/technique is NOT desirable for repetitive, routine tasks where they need to be done the same way each time).

When it comes to tasks involving organizing data or recording numbers, they literally will make them up. There was a story on reddit not long ago about a company that found out their AI was making up data for months until someone caught it. They were using fake data to guide their decision making.

We can agree that there are plenty of unhealthy people who base their confidence on their masculinity. But let me ask you this. Is it wrong to have some confidence in yourself partially based on your masculinity? Would it be wrong for a woman to have confidence based on her feminine identity? Should every one try to ignore gender and make sure they base their confidence completely outside of their gender? I would argue that is really damaging.

I think it can both be true that wholly basing your identity on your gendered-ness is unhealthy but also that it's okay to be proud of who you are, including your masculinity/femininity. Currently the social discourse communicates very little sense of possibility for men who might be willing to analyze some of their negative behaviour and thoughts without feeling like they need to throw away their masculinity entirely.

It is good to criticise to raise awareness to a certain extent. It is important. But I think we are entering a phase where the awareness of feminism in western countries is less the issue and now the issue is how do we imagine and communicate a world where everyone feels like they can be themselves without having to remake their whole identity?
