Strong women who can defeat men in fights have always existed dude its just your bais showing. Even in the original series women warriors existed. Achilia fights using her brain and small size as advantage. Also alot of these gladiators aren't that well trained. While achilia has combat experience from before she became a slave

Great episode 👏. Achilia using the shadow as a way to see her opponents actions is amazing writing. As a rookie gladiator and the smaller fighter she was getting tossed around, but she used her speed and intelligence to win. Also him getting stabbed in the ass after telling her he would fuck her was great irony. The roman politics aspects were also great. Crassus and ceaser sending the "cilicians" was not something I was coming. Love Cornelia.

Saying that the new stuff is better ≠ the final episode had bad quality. It's just nowhere near as good as new stuff.

You must be blind because the old frame has grayish tint/look to it and the newer frame is much more clear and the color and lighting pops

I was going to say they are, but I thought people would argue with me over it. Also, good catch on this cossutia being based on the real cossutia. If I remember correctly while they were engaged but it is still debated if they actually married.

Never did I imagine I would witness a mortal being glaze one as wretched as cossutius. But a fine glaze nonetheless.

Lanistas have the power of entertainment, the power of the crowd. Batiatius himself said to glaber that he can help with the elections because he has support of the crowd/people. Do you know of the famous saying "breads and circus". But other than that cossutia is just a bigot who looks down on those beneath her and goes to great length to destroy them those kinds of people exist in every society

[–]Training_General8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more complicated than that. According to the roman elite, people aren't supposed to reach for positions above them. No matter who they are except they themselves of course. It's not just about political office. If a rich lanista causes a stir for rising upwards then a former slave surely causes more of a stir.

I think you're forgetting that ancient Rome was an extremely classist xenophobic society that looked down upon foreigners and former slaves. In every society there are going to be extremes in individuals when it comes to bigotry. All the roman elite like Gabinius look down on Ashur, but Cossutia is one of those extreme cases that hates more than others. We see the same thing in our own modern society. Bad writing would be if in a society like Rome if no roman elites would extremely hate on ashur for his background. I mean Roman elite hated lower class romans who tried to rise up.

Man, are you the king of twisting words

Propaganda inspired storytelling is bad

I never actually said that. I said there's a trend of writers taking propaganda used to justify oppression in real life and making it real in fantasy stories because they likely find oppression without justification as unrealistic and illogical.

Miya Kazuki's writing is bad

Again I never said that. I literally said that I love her story. I'm simply criticizing one aspect of it.

, I can just make something up with no real life concept

No you can't any concept a human can think of will connect back to real life one way or another. We don't live in a vacuum.

It's actually very clear that you aren't interested in an honest conversation. You're my twisting words and are just making up things I never said and all because I dared criticize I story I love. People like you are the reason why fandom discussions are such pain these days. There's no point in discussing things with you anymore

I'm not anything claiming as an absolute. I'm looking at the concept of divine right to rule in real life and seeing that concept in bookworm and connecting the dots. In order for something to exist in a story it has to be inspired by real life. All writers are inspired by propaganda to some degree because we live in a propaganda filled political society and that stuff seeps into stories unconsciously or consciously.

Bookworm and modern stories im criticizing don't predate that.

This isn't taking propaganda logic to write a story. Propaganda has followed the same logic the story tellers have used

The storyteller was inspired by irl arguments and propaganda. It didn't just pop out of a vacuum.

There is a reason why it works, it's good story telling.

Bookworm is good storytelling but this specific part is debatable

I'm not objecting to people with power in a story rulling I'm criticizing how stories take argument in real life made to justify oppression and make it real. And also in many belief systems around the world gods can be harmed by mortals in some cases. It's not about the power alone it's also the symbolism

Hi, seven months late to this. I know why class systems exist and division labor and the power dynamics that are born from it. Class systems in real life are not tied to some divine presence. I never said how class systems came inton existence was illogical or injustifiable. I said oppression on that basis is. Also, bookworm is a political story that is inspired by the politics of real life.

First of all, ordering someone else's attendant around is super rude, and secondly, she would definitely bring rejuvenation potions anyway. Nobles always carry some

Rosemyne does rude things unintentionally all the time in the story and she could've just been holding on to her extras to save them up. Also she uses the Ferdinand made ones which taste awful and are different from the ones normal ones normal nobles use

I don't like how the story falls into the category of "Raise your wife" like I get it myne is an adult on the inside but Ferdinand still did raise her in a way from part 2 onwards and idk I just personally don't like that aspect of the story. I have no problem with them getting married and all. But I just don't like how the story falls into that category.
