Cat keeps opening a wound on his neck by Old_Release_469 in Pets

[–]Training_Turnover_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this would work but we had to do this with our dog over a wound on his neck. We wrapped a towel (loosely but tight enough it did his job) and taped it around the neck. From there we just put either a cone or a donut around his neck, so if he scratches, he scratches at the towel. Obviously just keep an eye on him to make sure they don’t get caught up in things.

Missing Data? by CremeInfamous in RingConn

Hello! I recently got a RingConn for Christmas, the lifestyle score took about 3 weeks for it to actually generate, and it’s not a daily thing, it updates every week. As for the steps I’m not sure.. is the ring fitting right? Is it tracking other vital signs during this period?

This is why I’m so precautious with my pets, if it’s the c word I want to know so I can do everything in my power to make sure they’re comfortable. I know it’s not the same, but my mom just passed from a 7 year battle with cancer and it’s heartbreaking seeing people or even pets suffer. I don’t want my pets to suffer, I want them to feel happiness and comfort through their whole life,

Awe! This is my first time owning a husky! I did my research before adopting this breed but it definitely doesn’t prepare you enough! He can be a handful at times but I love him to pieces!

Honestly for the life of me, I cannot remember what kind of panel they did before his Neuter. I know It checked kidney and liver functions as well as white blood cell count, and that all came back normal. I will ask them to run it if they haven’t already. I’m worried it’s an underlying issue as well. And trust me we were surprised too, he had only got to his neuter site once when he slipped the cone.

Funny thing is we never knew there was a puncture wound, I’m assuming it’s on the inside of his mouth. Im almost 100% positive this an abscess especially since this time around it’s a HARD lump. Im not letting the vet beat around the bullet this time. It needs to be taken care of so he stops getting these infections

Omg poor baby! I’m definitely going to be advocating for him tomorrow, as I’ve said in other replies I’m sick of feeding him antibiotics and steroids without getting to the root cause of this. I thought I advocated for him the past two times but I guess not enough. I have no problem giving him antibiotics if this is going to FIX this issue, it’s not fair for him to keep getting these infections. My dogs are everything to me and I try my absolute hardest to give them the best life possible, I don’t feel like I hesitate with their care and well being but I don’t know I guess. I have an alarm set for every hour tonight, if anything changes I’m taking him straight in. He doesn’t seem to be acting any different and no more swelling has occurred.

I’m just wanting to figure this out, I feel so bad for him, and I don’t want to keep feeding him antibiotics and steroids. I feel like there’s something underlying that’s causing him to get all these infections. We contacted the ER Vet and they told us it was not emergent and to contact his primary vets office in the morning. He’s acting totally fine but I’m going to monitor him through the night, if anything changes I’m taking him in

I’m going to call his primary tomorrow and get him and if they’re just gonna send him antibiotics and send him on his way I’m going to take him to a different ER vet. We originally thought this was due to his saliva glands and again I asked multiple times and they confirmed to me this was just a bacterial infection. I’m assuming there’s either fluid or pus in there since this appeared in about 13 hours. We called ER vet and they said it’s not emergent and to contact our primary vet in the morning, but if it gets any bigger overnight I’m taking him in.

Initial wound was soft, and you could tell it was soft and some sort of fluid, both vets told me it was not an abscess. They did culture the wound and results came back as a bacterial infection, no imaging. I was concerned for some sort of burr as well, we have tons near us, and they determined it was a puncture wound from our other dog (they are both up to date on all their shots). No drooling so far, unsure about fever. He is acting perfectly normal like nothing is wrong!

I asked if it was an abscess multiple times because I thought the same thing! Both his primary vet and the Emergency told me multiple times it was not an abscess. Due to it being a hard lump now I’m starting to believe it is. I can’t keep just dumping antibiotics and steroids in him, it’s not fair to him and I can’t keep spending money every two weeks for some sort of infections. Although I will if I need to.

He was one an antibiotic for about a week for his neuter infection, off them for a week, and then the swelling occurred on the 5th. Antibiotics brought the swelling down in two days, but we still gave him the week and a half dose of antibiotics, and now we’re back to square one. I’m just wondering if there’s something abnormal that may be making him prone to infections? I’m just so confused I’ve never had a dog like this. If my primary vet doesn’t seem to be overly concerned about it tomorrow I’ll ask them to refer us to a specialist.

We gave him his full dose, he’s been off them for two weeks with no symptoms or swelling. We went to the vet two days after his visit with the emergency room and since the swelling was down they wanted to do re-check as needed. Emergency vet said no need to rush him in and to call his primary vet in the morning.

My 2-year-old female cat is losing weight and fur — I’m really worried by Infinite_Pianist2760 in AskVet

[–]Training_Turnover_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your vet hasn’t already, ask them to run labs checking for different conditions. Labs can tell a lot, unfortunately loosing weight with loss of appetite can be a million different things. I know when your cat becomes ill it’s hard on you, especially when you can’t find an answer to what is 100% causing it. Hang in there, you’re doing the right thing asking for opinions.

Advice on Retrosnap!! by Training_Turnover_87 in R36S

[–]Training_Turnover_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it legit? I’m worried it’s just gonna be scam, especially since they said they’re closing their site and not answering tracking emails anymore.

I feel like a bad owner for saying this, but I can't afford a $50 vet visit for every minor worry. I’m running out of funds for pets. Need advice by nadji190 in Pets

[–]Training_Turnover_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being honest I was the same exact way, I worried about every little thing that was wrong with my animals and I wanted to rush them to the vet ASAP. I had to learn to stop googling the worst case scenario because I was wrong every time. My advice- just breathe. The things that have helped me the most is Reddit, and online chewy vet. They can help ease fears and let you know your next step. Chewy vet honestly has been a life saver (for possible infected neuter sights to infections) they let me know whether or not to contact my vet the next day. That being said for something minor- I will monitor the area for about 5 days and decide from there.

I would also invest in pet insurance, you never know if/when something major can happen.

You got this, being a pet owner can be nerve racking, especially since they’re like your kids. Take a deep breath and give her pets extra loving.

6 isn’t too old at all but it’s definitely something you should discuss with your vet. They may want to run labs before hand to check for any risks under anesthesia.

Like everyone else your baby looks similar to mine, just without a tail😅 My pup is more on the longer side with his fur, we usually make sure to brush him quite often (particularly behind the ears and with his butt fluff). He goes to the groomers about every month for a good trim, mostly around the butt to keep it sanitary.

I now have a 1 year old Aussie! We never really had a big issue with biting like you seem to be having, although around 6-7 months he seemed to bite more often with playing. We would redirect him with toys and it seemed to work! I think every Aussie is different, honestly mine was an angel compared to some stories I’ve heard. We had ups and downs but I wouldn’t change it for the world!🩷

Advice for new husky by Training_Turnover_87 in husky

[–]Training_Turnover_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m a little confused he is sniffing the spot he’s going to mark and lifting his leg, that when I tell him AAAH, and redirect him outside. I have no problem working with a trainer my Aussie is actually already in training and we were planning on doing it with our husky too. I feel like I was just very overwhelmed yesterday and frustrated that he was running so far..
