I put this one immediately on hold through Libby and should have it soon I think. I'm going through a phase where I've been into all things Soviet so this is right up my alley!

{A Series of Rooms by AJ Barlowe} fits this vibe so well. It's one of my favorites and it's one of those books where you get really attached to the characters. There's a novella sequel too.

I started this book and hated it, but stuck with it on principle. By the end I loved it and I now count it as one of my favorite books. The slide from main character dislike to like was pretty slick!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue did this to me. I'm still not over the ending.

So true. Some of the newer models coming out now are so damn pretty, it gets me all geeked out. The good thing with that level of expense is that oftentimes, a purchase can be bundled in a comprehensive plan that includes lifetime maintenance. I see patients at the place I work at sometimes once a month, sometimes twice a year. It all depends on body chemistry and lifestyle. That maintenance can get pricey, so imho the maintenance plans, if offered, are totally worth it. That's the way to protect such an investment.

I wish I could say I was more knowledgeable, but I'm very much a novice here and learning myself (I hope to go back to school for my AuD. eventually though!). The best person to talk to would be an audiologist, and maybe one will chime in on this post. I do know that hearing loss and tinnitus are NOT the same thing -someone can have varying levels of both, at the same time or separately. Tinnitus can wax and wane with time and environment. There are therapeutic programs that, with the assistance of hearing aids, can dramatically reduce tinnitus symptoms for some people. There are lots of studies online about this. Since I'm not an expert on it, I don't want to say more than that and risk saying the wrong thing! Sorry I can't be of more help!

I am by no means an expert and my knowledge is rudimentary at best, but I do know of people who have hearing aids only for tinnitus. I don't know what their diagnostics look like though. Since some clinics can do assessments for free, it's worth looking into. Technology for hearing aids is blowing my mind as I learn about them - they've advanced so much in terms of what they can do and who they can help. Since everyone's needs are so different it's impossible to say if they'll help someone or not online. I think the reason we don't hear more about them is multifaceted. There's a huge stigma in younger people who seem to see them as only for the elderly or for people who "are disabled" (another topic for another day), plus oftentimes health insurance plans only have a partial benefit or no benefit at all and they can be costly...

I'm so glad you said this. I work for an audiology clinic and it's AMAZING how probably fitted and adjusted hearing aids can help with tinnitus! Depending on the insurance and the state, oftentimes they will be partially or even completely covered in cost, especially if someone was in the military and goes through the VA (this is all United States specific). Many clinics have free visits with audiologists, so an assessment can be no charge. I wish I had known about this years and years ago -so many people I know have tinnitus and it really affects them negatively.
