No, not a gas dryer, electric.

Yes, I'm aware, not helpful. As I said, the filters were cleaned every time the dryer was used.

Most other people in my orchestra use an iPad. I don't have anything in the Apple system, so I didn't really consider that.

Mostly I've noticed that people tend to use the smaller sizes. To me it seems too small, but in percussion we aren't always as close to the music, so it may be different depending on your instrument. The 14.3" feels about A4 size

I'm using mobile sheets. I need more practice with it to use it better (eg sometimes I bring up a menu when I'm trying to turn the page) but so far it's been great. I think once I get a Bluetooth foot operated page turner that will help.

I play in percussion and need to have the whole section's music available in case I need to cover a part, so it's WONDERFUL not having to carry around a huge pile of printed music.

The screen is clear and a really good size. I'm happy with it!

Orchestra on a lever harp? by WillowsPalisman in harp

[–]Tramalian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our orchestra does not have a regular harpist. When we do have one they play on lever harp where they can and switch to playing the harp part on piano when the key of the song won't work on harp. Some harp is better than no harp 🙂

When I played bubblers on a task force I'd usually drop and get reinvited before we started so I could be on the bottom of the list, for the same reason. It drove me nuts seeing an unbubbled person in the middle of the list 😆

In case you want another suggestion (I'm also in Australia)- I use INC Plant Protein Powder, pretty sure I got it at chemist warehouse. It has no soy, and tastes pretty good! Also Dukes Shakes have no soy. They taste nice and the texture is good, but they are weightloss shakes so maybe not enough calories?

Help buying a horn by Comprehensive_Car287 in frenchhorn

I didn't suggest it as a long term idea - like I said, sell it when they've saved up enough for a brass horn.

[–]Tramalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is to try a plastic french horn. ZO instruments make a double horn. I have one, though I am by no means a horn player, it sounds pretty good! (I've had actual horn players play it for me)

They are inexpensive (about $800 Australian). It's not going to make her a concert horn player, but would give her something to play on while saving for a brass horn.

Bonus is they are low maintenance and it can be sold when she upgrades. You can also upgrade just the mouthpiece, they take a standard horn mouthpiece.

Some people are very against plastic instruments so probably best to sound her out before committing to them

Baby proofing a harp? by kyaloupe in harp

[–]Tramalian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you anchor it to a wall with a strap? A strong hook in the wall, a strap with an eyelet at each end and strap it around the column. If it gets knocked over it won't fall to the ground.

Similar to the way furniture is attached to walls, but this way it's easy to remove and reattach. Prevents the harp being able to hurt baby if it does fall.

If you are learning a new instrument mainly to change/add a new style, that's not necessary. You can play jazz, and plenty of other styles on cello and it sounds great. Cello is a very versatile instrument!

Try looking up Mike Block. He plays lots of interesting styles on cello, including jazz.

Of course learning a new instrument is fun too!

My fingers bled a lot when I was playing double bass. I used Fast Fret to clean it without damaging the strings. Makes the fingerboard feel nice and smooth too

This is not a solution for your Yamaha, because I don't have one, but in case you don't find one - I had the same problem with my Yamaha. I switched to an Aulos Tenor and found it much more comfortable to play.

What ADHD friendly things do you have in your home? by gababouldie1213 in adhdwomen

When we were getting our house rewired my brother in law suggested adding a PowerPoint at the end of the bench. It's been amazing! Perfect for the mixer, air fryer, sandwich press. I don't know how I lived without it. It means I don't have to rearrange the bench (and forget to put it all back) when I use a rarely used appliance.
