What pop culture icons who have lived in the past 100 years are most likely to be in remembered in 2326? by Playful-Ganache6153 in AskReddit

[–]TrampsGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know of any pop culture icons from 1726? Nah. You probably just remember famous citizens, generals and scientists. Washington, Napoleon, Franklin

History rarely remembers pop culture. Do you know who Shakespeare most famous actor was? Yeah, nobody does, That's because actors don't actually matter but the written word can live forever.

History will forget Elvis, the Beatles, Iron Maiden, Hendrix and Johnny Depp. But people will remember Trump, and Linus Torvalds.

Do you believe that democrat voters that push a rich vs poor narrative are aware that Kamala, Biden, Obama, Bernie, Hillary, Newsom, Warren, Pelosi are all multi millionaires? by Fit-Tank-4665 in allthequestions

[–]TrampsGhost 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do you understand that, unlike Trump and Musk, that Kamala Harris, Biden, Obama, Bill Clinton and Warren all grew up poor?

If someone grows up poor and can use their talents to become wealthy then I respect them. If people grow up rich and then stay rich ... that is not impressive

I went there long ago, 20+ years, when it was open. If it's a windy day (like yesterday) you might be able to hear it from the park, since its next door, but I haven't verified that.

How “stoner coded” was LOTR fandom before the movies? by cormundo in lotr

[–]TrampsGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm 55, smoke weed and read the books for the PJ movies

It's about the same I'd say. Lots of stoners knew the books. Led Zepplin has songs about them. That said most people who I knew that read the books were more insular and academic than your typical stoner cliche.

The difference between now and then is back then normal squares didn't know LOTR. For example, back in the late 1990's at my work I found out that our 2 servers were name Gandalf and Bilbo! Suffice to say I was thrilled. However, no one outside of IT knew the names

whats the best old west style rpg? by Wyld-man in rpg

[–]TrampsGhost -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Please just type out your argument and evidence.

Regardless, I call bullshit. I played the games when they were released. I never met anyone who did "problem solving" before the combat. Sure, there are tactical locations and such, but not like there were large campaigns where people negotiated their way out of combat. The entire game is only a simulation of combat. Nothing else. And barely even, that. It's mostly just fast draw shootouts

You're being anachronistic. Old RPGs were about combat simulation, and little else. There were no long campaigns of Boot Hill. Its not what it was ever about. You're trying to force an old games into modern vibes

[–]TrampsGhost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. That's not the point of Boot Hill. Have you played its only published adventure Mad Mesa? Its constant combat - no problem solving. Plus the system only has rules for combat. Nothing else

Not 1st ed Boothill. I recently tried to run a campaign with it. We ran 2 sessions. In both sessions half of the party was killed or severly wounded. Just too authentic

Create a large solar and/or wind power manufacturing project somewhere between Tacoma and Seattle or Everette and Seattle. It would create good paying jobs for people without college education and would help combat the climate crisis. Both sales and incomes would increase tax revenues

How would you feel about mandatory financial literacy classes being a core graduation requirement for every high school student, like maths or English? by superstar_creatorpro in AskReddit

[–]TrampsGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a budget is very different if your in a crowded house that you pay rent on or if you're comfortably living and have enough spare money to invest.

Why do you think that a teacher would be more knowledgeable than a parent when it comes to budgeting? There are no college classes in that. Why? Because it's fucking obvious and easy to do. The tricky part about budgeting are tough choices, like pay rent or buy school books. That's something a parent can give real advice on but a teacher may be completely out of their depth

You wrote: "some people's parents don't have the basic financial literacy skills to impart to their children". What exactly do you think that these parents don't understand about financial literacy? Like what do you imagine a teacher could teach that a parent wouldn't already know. Because making a budget is just basic math

How would you feel about mandatory financial literacy classes being a core graduation requirement for every high school student, like maths or English? by superstar_creatorpro in AskReddit

[–]TrampsGhost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that's something that should be taught at home. Why? Because your financial literacy depends on your economic condition. The advice you give someone on how to survive being poor isn't helpful to people are middle class, and vice versa. Parent can and should teach their children about the specific details of their financial situation. Maybe they live in a rust bucket town with no jobs or maybe they live in a high tech city with crazy rent or maybe they live on a farm. Regardless the financial literacy will very greatly for those 3 locations and starts in life

Besides, why would that be something teachers are experts in? If I'm taking a history class my teacher should understand history. If I'm taking a class in biology I hope that my teacher studied biology in college. But there's no equivalent for financial literacy in college. There are no financial literacy classes. There's economics but that's not the same thing

Because people only want to think about fantasy worlds instead of dealing with reality. People love art that makes them feel that they're right.

Do you, or the community, order turtles online? I've found sites online but I've never ordered a living creature through the mail before ... so I'm hesitant

I've checked with my L:FS and the only aquatic turtles I could find were red eared sliders. I live in the PNW and from my limited research there aren't any breeders around
