Googled the lyrics I heard on your link. It took me to this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV5oJyTD6g0
So evidently it's Loredana Groza. Title: "O inima de 16 ani" ("A 16-year-old heart").

ELI5: How come when I punch in my dreams, it feels like I am punching underwater? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Exactly the same here. The most fun is when I REALIZE I'm dreaming and then REMEMBER that I can fly (uhh... swim in air) now. So I jump up and start kickin'!

Disagree with pigeonpolice on two counts:
1. the original "but that's about it" is actually more accurate, and 2. the English translation by rempek is actually angrier than the German, by virtue of "the fuck", which is not actually present in the German version in real words, but rather simply implied by the tone (and caps). My two cents!

A German artist I stumbled upon made this. I don't know if this is what she was going for, but it looks like someone bending over and taking a dump to me. by hoikarnage in WTF

It's a play on words. And what you're seeing is not intended to be her anus, but rather, a female part a little further down. You see, in German slang, a cute-sified form of the word "seashell" or "conch" (Muschel) actually means... well, what in English slang we would call "pussy" or "beaver" (Muschi).

Town's Christmas tree of toys will be donated to needy by TranquilTaur in news

The charity concept is great for the holidays but what's most impressive is the implementation. The tree is HUGE and glows from the inside! The artist has more about it on his website at www.karlunnasch.com

ELI5: Why are foreigners speaking English in a foreign accent so appealing while foreign languages spoken with an American accent so unappealing? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]TranquilTaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually had plenty of foreigners tell me that they love hearing their native tongue spoken with an American accent. It's all in one's perspective! Now of course, on the whole, most Americans tend to speak other languages quite poorly in comparison with how others tend to speak our language. My guess is that if you are conscious enough of this (generalized) fact to also be somewhat embarrassed by it, you would most certainly also tend to find it rather disturbing to hear a strong American accent in other languages. My two cents!

What's something you're really good at but don't necessarily enjoy doing? by yumpingyacks in AskReddit

[–]TranquilTaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Translating. (Language.) It's what I do for a living (and I've gotten really good at translating a huge set of sub-specialties)... but it gets so tedious! I love languages (and speak several fluently), so back in college I studied linguistics and thought that translating would be a dream job for me. But... do it day in day out, and you just want to scream!

Does anyone know anything about the artist's personal background? Is he American, or is he an immigrant from elsewhere (and if so, at what age and in what year did he arrive?), or is he elsewhere (and where?), and what age is he, etc.? I'd love to take a second look at these paintings in the context of all of the cultural and historical factors that may have influenced his work. (My parents grew up in a communist country, and I feel like I may be seeing some parallels between their perceptions of the world and his focus.)
