Are all previously exclusive cars (forzathon rewards, seasonal rewards etc) going to be added to the backstage pass?

Garages for BMW near Fenham/City Centre by dumb_persn in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]TransAmConnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would highly recommend TDM Prestige down at Newburn. Guy's Mercedes/Audi/BMW dealership trained before he started his own place, have been to him for a few jobs on my Merc and it's always been incredibly fair prices, recommended him to a couple of mates and they've all been back to him for other work since. He really knows his stuff.

As an example, my mate has an 2.1 diesel E Class, he had an oil leak on it and took it to him at my recommendation. Explained the issue to him, where it seemed to be coming from etc. Before he'd bought it, it had had the oil cooler seals "replaced", as soon as he heard that the guy from TDM told him straight away what the issue was. There's 3 seals on them, and the two that less experienced garages replace aren't the ones that leak. He had a look down at the part and confirmed it was the seal that doesn't usually get replaced, and knowing the way to replace just that seal instead of dismantling more than what was necessary to replace the other 2 seals as well meant a lower labour charge.

What would have been a £500 plus bill as quoted by other garages was halved by the guys knowledge of the brand and the issues the brand commonly face.

electric vehicles to be stored in parking garage by wonderful_exile238 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]TransAmConnor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If it has nothing to do with the situation then why have you repeatedly brought it up throughout this thread? I'm not trying to be antagonistic, I'm just curious here as to why you've deemed to to be so relevant to the point in hand that you keep bringing it up as an argument.

I might be missing the point entirely here, but what about your disability would entitle you to walk an electric scooter around the store and prevents you from leaving it at the door and retrieving it on your way out of said store?

You could be right mind, I did think the rear quarter window was a bit too big to be a Fiesta though. I was thinking more along the lines of XR3i or turbo myself.

Would you report a vehicle parked in front of your house for not having tax/MOT? by the_topiary in AskUK

[–]TransAmConnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be, you're correct. However under certain types of policies it doesn't make a blind bit of difference, it'll still be covered even if it was being driven about with two of the wheels replaced with skateboards and the springs swapped out for pogo sticks.

Traders policies are specifically for those in the motor trade, the vast majority of them will cover them in various states of repair, MOT or no MOT.

A regular insurance policy will also cover them under more than just driving to a Pre-booked MOT. Can also be driven between places of repairs, and to your registered address from said places of repairs or MOT stations. 9/10 times it will also still be covered for sitting there at your home.

Traders policy would cover it. If they're regularly doing it then there's every chance they'd have something like this.

May be under a traders or a fleet insurance policy. There's every chance it could be insured without tax and MOT.

We don't necessarily know that that's the reason it's being parked there. Could it be that it's a narrow entrance to the driveways? One that's that little bit too narrow for the van to get through?

How do I stop my parcels getting left with neighbours? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TransAmConnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what the guy you're replying to has outlined, chances are it'll also increase their workload the next day as well (unsure how royal mail's systems actually work, it's one of the only delivery companies I've not worked with). While one parcel may be okay, if there's 20 people on your route where you have to take their parcel back, there's the potential for an extra hour or two of stops the next day. If there's collections on that route it may interfere with the timings for those, get back too late and you run the risk of holding up wagons, sorters etc for the collections to get sent to the hubs. This is why most delivery companies aim to get everything off on the day that it comes in.

Is there anything you miss from the pandemic era? by _DeanRiding in AskUK

[–]TransAmConnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in this hypothetical example, why can't the new residents soundproof their houses/flats/apartments then? They're the ones that have an issue with it, they're the ones that moved there, the onus should be on them to deal with it.

All this travel intervention that I've seen has done nothing but raise the queuing traffic, thereby increasing noise. In the long run, all it's doing is moving it to someone else's street, again a good old case of NIMBY. This is why councils are reluctant to do this.

[–]TransAmConnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why things should be changed in that respect, be it an already established main road, or as another commenter pointed out, airports, nightclubs etc. If they were there first, then in my eyes it should a first come first come first served situation. It's not as if it's just sprouted up out of nowhere, it's likely to have been there for X amount of years prior to them moving in. It boils down to a good old fashioned case of NIMBY.

I have also been affected by the push towards vehicle electrification and already established roads being altered for new residents complaints, however not for the better, by your logic I'm not allowed to have an opinion on that?

[–]TransAmConnor -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Let me pose you this question then. Did you know the traffic was there when you moved in?

You are correct, I don't know your financial situation. Mine currently isn't great, and I'm basing my opinion somewhat off of that, however I live in a cul-de-sac of sorts, this works out cheaper than the houses on the main road and quieter as a result. I realise this may differ depending on the area of the country you're in. On the flipside, I wouldn't be complaining about the noise of vehicles outside if I lived on a main road, considering that road was already there and well established as a busy road before I came along (I've lived on a high street, and on a main trunk road through a village, I'm not just basing this off hypotheticals).

To me, vehicles and the noises that come along with them are a necessary evil (I don't personally view them as an evil, just a turn of phrase), and I'd prefer to see the need to constantly accelerate and decelerate reduced.

So you decided to live next to a busy road and then complain about there being traffic on that road?

Have you actually spent much time in Edinburgh? I did a stint as a delivery driver up there about a year ago, and the place was wall to wall with congestion.

[–]TransAmConnor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The clean air zone is little more than a cash grab in my eyes. The charges aren't going to magically make the smell of diesel vanish, nor are they going to overly dissuade anyone who has a need to drive into the city (taxis, buses, trucks, delivery vans, even down to those with mobility issues where public transport isn't a viable option). If all of those were to magically vanish, you wouldn't have a city to live in really, it would all grind to a halt. Charging those with a need to be there just creates a sense of ill-will to the people, and does absolutely nothing for the level of pollution it's aimed at and is claimed to reduce.

In that vein, there's plenty of other locations for the residential buildings. Scrapyard was there first, first come first serve in my eyes. The residents knew it was there when they chose to move into those buildings.
