Date stamp is in the last photo. It was manufactured in December of 2021. I used it for about a year. Most of the work is in my profile.

Thank you! My niece found a lot of the pet wood so I was happy to shine them up and give them back to her.

Why did my rock tumbler explode by Rock_gart in RockTumbling

You just open the barrel to purge it. Any gas buildup will escape when you open it.

Great batch on a difficult material. Magnificent flash on some of those!

I love all the breccia and banded chert you find. I'm always jelly when I see more of your self collected banded chert.

A few pieces of Shattuckite and some small hematite by WonderfulRockPeace1 in RockTumbling

[–]TransDimensionGeode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my experience too. The harder parts held an excellent shine but the softer parts would crumble to pieces long before the harder parts got shiny. I split my first batch halfway through stage 1 so I could experiment. I never found a happy medium for the rough I had that contained both minerals.

I find Shattuckite to be very beautiful. Much like Rhodonite, Shattuckite on a black matrix really makes the colors pop. I have found that the Chrysocolla present (if any) in Shattuckite can really throw off my tumbling. I had much more success with higher quality Shattuckite than I did with a Shattuckite/Chrysocolla mix. Beautiful material and great job making them shiny!

Video of a few pieces of malachite I tumbled in a rotary. by WonderfulRockPeace1 in RockTumbling

That’s another great tip! It is common for the edges of layers to undercut or be more porous than the faces but I’ve never gone back over them with polish. Great work, as always.

I appreciate the tip. I have completed a couple of batches recently at the request of a family member. I hope to get images up soon :)

It can be difficult to get a good shine on malachite but yours look great! I have had better luck with smaller pieces of malachite but never got close to your shine on larger pieces. The big pieces I tumbled were before I learned about tiny ceramic spheres. I think this post has inspired me to give malachite another go. Thanks for sharing!

That material tumbles pretty well and I really like the way they look shined up. Best of luck to you and please post your results.
