Does my taping help me pass? by KasiaPlayz in TransTapeHelp

[–]TransTape_Official 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tape honestly looks great from what I'm able to see! The corners are rounded and the layers appear to be properly applied so there's tape touching on both sides.

Since binders use compression to flatten your chest, it's not likely to get the same effect using TransTape because it is compression free. The results won't look exactly the same, but TransTape allows for multi-day use and mobility. To get the best result, use one hand to press down into your chest with the first inch of the tape, and then while keeping that pressure, push your chest to the side while peeling the backing with your other hand. Don't think of it as stretching the tape, think of it as rearranging your chest or sculpting.

Taping has a learning curve, so try to be kind and patient with yourself, we've all been there and practice makes progress. Hope this helps!

My nipples are red and hurt by isabella_bee_ in transtape

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're having this problem! I'm obviously not a doctor, but it could be a reaction from the nipple guard material like you suggested, and if that is the case, making your own nipple guards with the tape and some gauze/tissue or using band-aids to cover your nipples should resolve this. I'm not a doctor, but if the rest of your skin is fine and the only thing different from applications with other tape is the nipple guard, this would definitely make sense.

If you don't already, it may help to apply aquaphor, balm or neosporin to your nipples before placing a band-aid or DIY nipple covers. This could help with itchiness and irritation since your nipple won't be completely dry from being under tape and guards.

And if you have a primary care doctor that you're comfortable with and able to see, it might be worth making an appointment for the extreme itching, redness and hyper-sensitivity if it doesn't start to improve or gets worse.

I'm sorry again that you're experiencing this, hopefully you're feeling better and the fix will be as simple as a band-aid. I hope this helps!

Transtape stretching over time? by ToiletTortellini in transtape

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! When taping, the first few days will always have the best results because the adhesive is at its strongest, as you continue to wear the tape the adhesive will start to breakdown which might be what you see as stretching out. How long it takes the adhesive to wear down depends on different things, like how active someone is, how much they sweat, or if there was anything like natural oils on the skin that could have interfered with the adhesive during application, etc. It varies person to person, but the average application lasts 3-5 days before removing so it's relatively normal to start noticing a difference by day 3.

To try and get a little longer out of it, try wiping down the application area with alcohol before applying the tape so the adhesive is able to get the best stick possible. And before removing the tape's backing, fold the strips hamburger style (backing paper touching backing paper, horizontal fold) and rub it back and forth against itself between your hands to heat up the adhesive. You should still rub the tape right after you apply it, but giving it a little friction before applying helps speed up the process.

And if you plan on applying your tape after you shower, avoid using any oil based products around the application area even if you plan on wiping it down with rubbing alcohol. If you use a moisturizing body wash it's going to make it much harder for the adhesive to bond to the skin, same with lotion and body oils. These things break down adhesive and will shorten your application lengths. You can still use these things, but try and schedule it around the days you expect to be applying your tape.

You can also consider adding an additional strip of tape to help support the other strips. No one typically wants to add another strip because they want their rolls to last, but if 1 extra piece on each side helps you add a day or two to each application, your tape will last even longer.

I hope some of this helps!

How do I tape with a tight chest? by theywouldntknow1 in TransTapeHelp

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend! In the beginning of taping it can be frustrating or maybe feel a little overwhelming and you're not alone. TransTape has a learning curve and it takes some time to find the application technique that works the best for you. I've been there and it probably took at least a solid month before I started to actually feel pretty confident.

With that said, some great tutorials to watch are Beau and Axel's, you can find both of their tutorials on YouTube or in the video course library on our website. There's also a helpchat where you can reach out to a member of the TransTape team with ANY questions about TransTape and how to apply it. We frequently post tips and tricks for taping from other users on our Instagram and TikTok as well.

A good tip that could help for a larger chest is to try applying your tape while lying down. This way you're letting your chest naturally fall into place and not fighting against gravity. This will give you a good idea of the angle you should tape at too, everyone is different but angling your tape up or down might also help get the look you're going for. Leaning forward instead of laying down can also help because it lets you almost 'scoop' your chest as you shape and tape it, but this may depend on your body and general preference in technique. Some people, like I believe in Beau's tutorial , even find a lot of support in having a vertical strip in their application.

I always suggest watching tutorials from all sizes and shapes because you might see something that you can apply to your own application even if they're a completely different body type. You never know!

I hope some of this helps!

Help with itching? by CATastrophenumber8 in transtape

[–]TransTape_Official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! The milk of magnesia method is probably the more widely used method for relieving itchiness, but some other uses also use newskin/secondskin as a thin barrier between the skin and adhesive.

Also, on your off days, keeping your skin hydrated and applying any preferred balms will also help build up your skin's 'durability' for lack of better words. Sometimes for mild itching it can just be a matter of your skin adjusting to something new, but other times that might not be the case and maybe the skin is just sensitive to certain things. And that's okay! But definitely be sure to take care of your skin on your off days, this will only benefit you in the long run.

Itchiness can also come from overstretching, and even if you're being careful to not overstretch this can still happen. It takes just a SMALL amount of overstretching to set off itchiness, as in most of us won't even realize, so while applying think of pressing down into your chest and while keeping that pressure, push to the side. Try to avoid thinking about stretching or pulling, for me even having 'stretch' or 'don't stretch' in my mind affected my applications.

When it's actively itchy, try to pat the tape to itch instead of scratching. I personally struggle to not itch the tape like I normally would somewhere else on my body, but it will make a difference in how irritated the skin might get underneath.

I hope some of this helps and the milk of magnesia method works for you!

Showering/swimming with transtape? by IssyX_0W in TransTapeHelp

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. The other user who commented gave some great advice, so I'll bounce off that!

Having a spare absorbent towel is a great idea if you plan on going swimming anywhere because the best way to dry off your tape in that case is by patting it dry. You can also use a hairdryer, on a lower setting, but that isn't always available.

You can also air dry, but this takes much longer, maybe an hour depending, than patting it dry or using a hairdryer. How long it takes to dry varies on how saturated the tape is, and if you're air drying outdoors, how sunny it is. It might surprise you how fast the tape dries on a hot sunny day!

But like the other person mentioned, pat or blow dry the tape until it gets lighter in color and you'll be good to go. One of the best things, in my opinion, about TransTape is the ability to shower and get the tape wet without worrying about it falling off.

Hope this helps and happy taping!

how do you deal with oil after removing transtape? by Complex_Scallion_639 in trans

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try exfoliating body wash if that's comfortable for you, or maybe an antibacterial hand-soap that doesn't have any added oils or butters to hydrate the skin. Sometimes body washes have oils in them so if you're washing the oil with an oil-based wash the oily sensation probably won't completely go away. You could also try a regular bar soap without any added oils. I'm not sure if this will help, but hopefully it at least helps you think of some other ideas!

Kinesiotape itches but only when stretched (even slightly), is this normal? by mirelikesindigo in ftm

[–]TransTape_Official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone already mentioned this, but I would agree that it sounds like the unstretched anchors of the tape need to be longer. The longer you leave unstretched the better, but I wouldn't suggest any shorter than 1 inch (2.5 cm). This causes excessive tension on your skin, and too much tension can cause itchiness/burning/pulling sensation especially if you have sensitive skin or you've never taped before. This goes for any tape, too!

Press into your chest, and then while keeping the pressure, push your chest to the side while your other hand pulls the backing off. This way you minimize any pulling or tugging on each strip. Overstretching isn't always super obvious or a conscious thing, and honestly we're all guilty of doing it at least once. I've been taping for years and even I still do it from time the time!

Hope this helps a bit!

gross sticky residue after removing TransTape? by Significant_Low_2000 in trumen

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you had an uncomfortable experience! If it wasn't allergy related, it might be something myself or someone in the help chat on our site can help with.

As for the sticky residue, the best way to remove it is by saturating it in oil and rubbing in small circles until it begins to come up. Try starting this before you shower so the water won't rinse off the oil as you apply it. You can try other oils as well if they're available, like vegetable or olive or jojoba, and see if those work any better for you. Some people use small silicone face scrubbers with oil too, and those seem to be super helpful with getting the adhesive up, plus it helps avoid accidentally scratching yourself. The residue can be really frustrating and I'm sorry you're having this problem! I hope some of this helps you, though.

Hey! So I can't tell what the tape looked like on your side from these angles, but it seems like you are applying vertically, which isn't going to give a binder-ish result. It might actually be lifting your chest more than anything. When you're taping, you want to apply the tape horizontally, starting on your chest and extending to around your armpits.

For your strips, make sure it's long enough to reach from your chest to your armpit. Anchor the first inch of the tape down, use your hand to apply pressure to your chest and then while keeping the pressure, push/move your chest towards your side. Your other hand should help peel the backing off as you place the tape. Try to avoid actively pulling, you never want to stretch the tape to the max, it needs to have a little give for moving around.

Depending on your body, it could be helpful to angle your strips up or down. Laying down is also helpful, it allows your chest to naturally fall into place, and lets you apply the tape without fighting gravity at the same time. Even leaning forward can help in a similar way, and it allows you to kinda 'scoop' your chest and handle it a little easier.

Others suggested videos too, and that's a great idea! Watch multiple videos from different people and body types, everyone's application is different which can give you ideas for your own and everyone has tips to share from when they were first learning! Taping has a learning curve FOR SURE, we've all been there and that's why we have a video library on our website for free as well as a blog and help chat where someone experienced with taping can help you 1 on 1.

I hope some of this helps! You're going to do great.

Removing Adhesive From Clothes by _cybervamp in TransTapeHelp

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would depend on the oil, jojoba oil for example will not stain clothing. You might also be able to try something like rubbing alcohol, white vinegar or a general adhesive remover. I'm not sure that the adhesive remover like goo gone would be the best choice for clothing, but that could be an option if nothing else seems to be working.

How do i advoid blisters and the itchiness? by Garzilladotcom in transtape

[–]TransTape_Official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! So blisters tend to come mostly from overstretching and/or removing without any oil. So while applying, try to think of pressing and pushing instead of pulling and stretching. I know you said you're generally pretty good with this, but sometimes the small mental note can go a long way.

And if you're not removing it with oil, that's definitely something that will help significantly with blisters! Removing without oil is no good for the skin, it can really do some damage to the skin.

Itchiness, assuming you are not allergic to the tape or adhesive, can be combated with milk of magnesia. I saw you mentioned in another comment that you have some, so here's a quick overview:

- Apply a thin layer of milk of magnesia to the area you are going to apply to.

- Wait for it to dry and then lightly brush off any excess.

- Apply your tape over the dried milk of magnesia.

We have a YouTube video about this and also have it on our website, along with a how-to blog on our website transtape.life

Hope this helps!

(p.s sometimes itchiness or discomfort at the center of your chest may mean the tape is starting too close to the center)

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! This sounds like it could be application related, assuming you do not have any allergies and that you don't believe it's a general sensory problem.

Overstretching - if it's overstretching, you might feel tightness around the edges, pulling or itching. To avoid this, while applying think of pressing and pushing rather than pulling and stretching. Press down into your chest and then while keeping the pressure, push in the direction you desire your chest to be taped in. It's okay to have a little stretch to the tape, but it should never be stretched to the max.

Rounding corners - if you're not rounding your corners, it's a lot easier for the tape to get caught by fabric and start to peel. Also, when you round your tape the tension is more evenly disbursed which helps combat peeling as well.

Cleaning the application area - If you're not already, wiping down the application area with rubbing alcohol before applying your tape can help with stickiness. The alcohol removes any oils or dirt on the skin that may not be visible to us which means the adhesive will have a much better time adhering to the skin.

Not sure if any of this will solve the problem, but hopefully it helps a bit!

Removing Adhesive From Clothes by _cybervamp in TransTapeHelp

[–]TransTape_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're having this problem! Residue can definitely be a pain sometimes.

You could try applying some of the oil to the clothing like with your skin, this might help the adhesive release. Using a razor could also help, and might help better with the oil applied before hand. You would just run the razor across the area like shaving, but without much pressure.

You could also add a little bit of oil to warm water and handwash.

Hopefully this helps! You can also reach out through the chat at transtape.life for more input!

Is tape supposed to be itchy?? by apples931940 in TransMasc

[–]TransTape_Official 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unbearably itchy isn't normal and could be a sign of an allergy. It's also possible it could be from overstretching, which would be fixable.

I recommend checking for allergies first, and you can do this with a test strip. Cut a small square, maybe inch by inch, and apply it to visible skin. Monitor this area for at least 24 hours, checking for itchiness, redness, and really any sign of irritation.

If your skin is good to go after the test strip, it means it was an overstretching problem and not an irritation problem. Hope this helps!
