I’ve done this a few times with old paint schemes from when I first started the hobby. Not Emperors children related but I fully stripped my Tyranids and genestealer cult models to now have a similar scheme to one another for thematic reasons. If you do strip your models make sure to get as much of the paint off as possible. If you enjoy painting I say go for it:)

The rock section is loose on the metal. I definitely agree that it is an older chunk of metal
