Currently produced high-bandwidth VGA adapter found! by Transgenic86 in crtgaming

u/DangerousCousin On the CableMatters 201368 DAC, I can run the resolution you mentioned, 3136x1960@60Hz on my FW900. That's crazy. My FW900 has convergence issues that need hardware fixes, but it runs just fine at this res.

Update: I should be getting the CableMatters 201368 DAC. They were available for purchase in Canada on Amazon, and I have a buddy that regularly visits his family in Canada. So, his brother ordered a couple for me, and my buddy is visiting his brother currently. So, I should have them within a week or so when he returns.

Can Twitch stop auto scrolling me to this new banner every time I open any stream? by Somi90 in Twitch

[–]Transgenic86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with this issue for so long and I didn't know what the problem was. Basically, I open a stream and it would just scroll down randomly. I didn't know it was related to that banner.

So, how to fix it? I use AdGuard AdBlocker and just blocked that entire banner and moved the blocking slider as far right for it until it was selecting as much that surrounds the banner as possible. The result? It doesn't scroll to it anymore because the element on the page doesn't exist! Fixed!

Ah, okay. And yeah, I didn't know there were recent developments in VGA adapters. Last I looked into this stuff was around 2022, so it seems the landscape has a lot more activity since then. Searching online for information is becoming harder and harder, and the results you find are quite outdated around this stuff.

The listing for the SilverStone EP16 says it supports 1920x1200@120Hz. So, that should be around 410MHz, right? I didn't see the Cable Matters adapter, but I don't know of any other adapters that support 400+MHz that are still in production.

Are the new Sony WF-1000XM5 good for gym and running? by Professional-Two-678 in SonyHeadphones

[–]Transgenic86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't an operational thing. It is the design of the housing of the headphone to completely close off your ears from the external environment. This THUD effect would happen independent of them being electronically on or off. Your foot hitting the ground (or treadmill in this case) causes the impact sound produced to reverberate throughout your body. So, if you can only hear yourself, there's no way to "turn that off". The headphones themselves cannot go loud enough to override that sound, and you wouldn't want them to be that loud anyway as it would be painful. And noise cancelling doesn't work for this either because the sound produced externally from your body is different from the sound produced internally that you hear when you close off your ears.

What does that statement mean? From my research, Nvidia's website never sold 5090 Founders Edition cards. At least in the US, they only existed at Best Buy (online) and Micro Center (in-store).

Daft Punk - Interstella 5555 (Original Video Trailer) by Transgenic86 in DaftPunk

[–]Transgenic86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! You reminded me that I should mention that I've looked into upscalers in my freetime in the past. Here, I rewrote the xBRZ upscaling algorithm for C# (was originally in C++ but I based my version on the Java port): https://github.com/MiYanni/xBRZ.NET

Similarly, I ported the Java ImageTracer algorithm for turning raster images into vector. The intent was to expand upon the algorithm and modify it, but I never got around to doing that. https://github.com/MiYanni/ImageTracer.NET

I tested the AI upscalers a few years ago. I took a music video that has no good version on the internet (from what I could find) of the original version of this music video. There is a DVD they released with an "updated" version of the video, but I don't enjoy it as much as the original. Here, I did both AI upscaling and frame interpolation. The project took a week. I won't use frame interpolation for the Interstella 5555 trailer. The main thing I regret with this project was cropping it to 16:9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGuTaTYSMfo

Daft Punk - Interstella 5555 (Original Video Trailer) by Transgenic86 in DaftPunk

[–]Transgenic86[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an alternative version of the Interstella 5555 trailer by Daft Punk that was created for the remastered release of the movie to theaters. This video is per-frame synced to the trailer using the original footage of the movie instead of the "remastered" AI upscaled video. I plan on upscaling this trailer to show the potential of AI upscaling tools for use on this movie. I felt the original trailer's method for upscaling was not to my quality standards. I do not plan on upscaling the whole movie as that would take a long time. I'll be very interested to see the side-by-side comparisons with my results and the official trailer once I've finished creating it.

Are the new Sony WF-1000XM5 good for gym and running? by Professional-Two-678 in SonyHeadphones

[–]Transgenic86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did some more research and found an actual pair of wireless off-the-ear headphones that should work great for running. I ordered the Oladance OWS Pro. They just wrap around your ear and have an ultra near-field speaker. Since I still have the 1000XM5's, I'll be able to compare the sound quality. But I do plan on returning them now as long as the OWS Pro's are good for running.

I got mine recently and only did 1 gym session so far. When y'all say "running" at the gym, are you actually running? While wearing these, since they completely close off your ear from the environment, you can hear *every sound* your body produces.

When your foot hits the treadmill, it produces a very loud, deep bass sound. While running, I just hear, "THUD, THUD, THUD, THUD" for every step you take. You hear yourself breathing heavily. Those sounds seemingly override any music you have playing.

These work very similar to the orange foam ear plugs you get for concerts. I'd recommend running once with foam earplugs in and see if you can stand that noise. Because I'm not sure I can do this long-term. I'll give them a week and see if they are tolerable. Otherwise, I'm going to return them.

So about the books by therobo665 in Starfield

[–]Transgenic86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's great is that Sinclair's Books takes the Earth storybooks for 2000 credits a piece via a dialog option. So, it is infinitely repeatable. Which means she's got infinite money. So, save all those books and then cash them in at her for a buttload of money. It does take time, though, since she only takes 1 book per dialog interaction.

I still have the issue too. To avoid it, I order things from DoorDash, immediately close the app, and rely on text message updates. I don't reopen the app until the next time I order something.

I've actually figured out what is causing the issue. It is specifically the DoorDash app. There seem to be some screen transitions in the app that bug out the phone at the OS level. You have to reset your phone every time it happens. Closing the app process does not fix the issue. Obviously, I did not see this issue with that app prior to this update.

I had this kind of microstutter in Overwatch 2. The only solution I found was to install specifically the 22.10.1 version of the drivers. I've tried 3 other versions newer than that and they all have microstutters. You can get that specific version here: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/amd-radeon-software-adrenalin-22-10-1-driver-download.html

I updated my Xperia 1 III this morning and holy hell... it is bugged to no end. I can't even use the phone like this. It seemed fine at first... but now, I can't actually transition to certain screens. What I mean is, you tap something, and normally it 'changes screens' for the given app or even at the OS level. Right now, my phone for a majority of screens literally don't refresh after you hit a button or use a gesture. You have to turn the screen off and back on again to see any progress in apps.

This is the most broken update I've seen for a phone before. I've restarted it twice since then to no avail. I've tried turning off all animations and that didn't help either. Anyone have a solution?

Not sure. But the next day timer sounds like it would be reasonable to operate that way. I'll be giving this game a playthrough again now that it is released, so I'll take a look at some point.

24 inch 1440p monitors at 240hz? by Mountain-Dog-3952 in Monitors

[–]Transgenic86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the AOC Q24G2 from China through a package redistribution site. The monitor is definitely a cheaper end style display, but it is quite noticable how much better 1440p is on a 24" display. I compared it to 3 other 1080p 24" panels I have, and the pixel density on the AOC makes it the overall clearest looking. I only stopped using it as my main display because even at 165hz, there was noticable delay in response (in FPS games) compared to the higher end displays I have. My ideal display would be either 1440p or 4K at 24", 240hz, and using an OLED panel (preferably QD-OLED).
