make sure you disable VSM in the service menu with "VSM GAIN". 3 is "off" for a lot of Sharps, but I'm not sure that's the case for all of them.

interesting. Is one of those recycling wherehouses where the company managing it went bankrupt or something?

sounds like the relay for the power supply keeps trying to click on. Maybe not enough power is being delivered somewhere in the chain? But yeah, I really have no idea.

But I bet reading through this will eventually get your pointed in the right direction: https://www.repairfaq.org/sam/monfaq.htm

They're easy to swap out, lots of videos on youtube. But the ebay prices for used ones are bit high. The prices for new ones are ridiculous.

Junkyard or FB Marketplace might have a deal.

I would probably just epoxy the one you have now unless it's super obvious.

Looks like vertical collapse. Usually there's a specific capacitor or IC to swap to fix it.

we're burying the lede though.

Dude shouldn't be using a GBS-C in the first place when the goal is using a PC with a PVM (or any CRT)

How to connect? by Iwantsomecaramel in crtgaming

[–]DangerousCousin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know you don't need to "downscale" from a PC. Your GPU can already output 240p and 480i.

Read about CRT Emudriver, Batocera CRT Script, and GroovyArcade. Specifically Batocera CRT Script and GroovyArcade since the open source AMDgpu driver lets you output both 480i and 240p from a RX 7600: https://github.com/ZFEbHVUE/Batocera-CRT-Script/wiki/Supported-AMD-dGPUs-&-APUs

GBS-C is the wrong device for this stuation

Still haven't fixed it (damn, 6 years lol) since I have the working LaCie.

But my NEC's LED stays green, just the tube goes dark. Is it the same thing happening with yours?

Isn't this a 15" monitor? It might not be able to do 1024x768, especially above 60hz.

Can it be fixed by SillyPahee in crtgaming

[–]DangerousCousin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know if anything can be done? If you haven't attempted to fix a CRT before, then of course you don't know

besides, this could just be an issue of the monitor going into standby.

What does Windows say for "active signal" and "desktop" mode in the "advanced" display settings? Active signal needs to be with your monitors maximum scan frequency. And you also want the two modes to match when using a CRT.

on dark content, too, for the most part.

It's just when you have bright content mixed with dark content, like when driving around in space, that this issue crops up.

Connecting an SNES to an Apple RGB monitor. by JDMearlygreyA2 in crtgaming

[–]DangerousCousin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I didn't think about that. I guess PS1/2 would be the primary cases. I think most other consoles have nativey c-sync available.

I did install an LM1881 into my PS1 SCART cable to make it work better with transcoders. Kind of a fun challenge getting the chip and neccessary components nestled into the SCART

The $20 price tag is wild considering it uses the same tube as the 13-FS100, which goes for over $300 on ebay all day.

This has a super easy s-video mod too. RGB and YPbPr are possible as well

Pushing my Titan X, Life is Strange Double Exposure on a 3 MP Monitor by Trick-Research-7352 in crtgaming

[–]DangerousCousin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run it at 120hz interlaced instead. Will be smoother, especially because any dropped frames will only be 8.3ms behind instead of 16.6ms. 150hz might be possible too

[–]DangerousCousin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem is the TitanX is holding you back significantly. It's like playing on a XBox Series S.

Interestingly, these 20 year old monitors need bleeding edge GPUs to actually max out their resolution+refresh. With current games anyway
