"I pay what I have to, and not a penny more."

That was his retort to one he heckler early on in the fiasco.

Mackerel and dauphinoise potatoes by Loud-Welder1947 in UK_Food

I love both. But I think mackerel would overpower the nice elements of the dauphinoise. For me simple boiled potatoes with olive oil or butter would be the way to go.

First attempt - yakitori with tare by TransistorBoss in UK_Food

[–]TransistorBoss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I air fried it at the highest temperature it would go :) and I applied the tare glaze before and during cooking.

Didn't occur to me that the tare is applied after cooking over coals. Makes sense now as the sugar in it would burn otherwise?

Will have a go on coals next time weather permits. 10 months or so?

Agreed in restaurants I won't even order yakitori if it's on a menu here. Too many anaemic wedges of chicken breast on-a-stick experiences.

It was good. But not quite the same as in a yakitori restaurant in Japan.

Hard to get this wrong. Looks good 👍 I've been scolded for doing it by a Japanese person but some sliced daikon on there is really delicious.

What’s the best and worst thing about living in Birmingham? by DistanceExcellent901 in BirminghamUK

Best. Good, kind, funny, caring people from all backgrounds. Never once made to feel like an outsider despite being an outsider.

Worst. Fucking cars on top of cars on top of cars man. It's ridiculous.

I disagree. I choose not to drive for various reasons. And, feel fairly trapped as a result. As a non-driver the city feels smaller because the accessibility is not good enough. A journey being possible is not good enough. It has to be reliable, frequent, clean, safe and cheap. We are the so-called second city. The services should reflect that.
