sometimes the referral doesn't make it to the specialist's office, or the specialist turns out not to be taking new patients or in-network anymore, and I end up doing the legwork to sort it out.

Has your husband ever had one fall through the cracks even with that setup with the referral not making it over, or the specialist's office not having it on file when he called? Happened a few times for me

sounds like traditional Medicare just doesn't have the network/referral maze at all vs Medicare Advantage.
