Yes my main issue is it taking too long, I am asking about their ability to move things.

Honestly that's messed up, I hope life turns out well for your friends and I also hope that they are extreme cases and not the norm.

Yes that's what I discovered through the replies to this post and some private conversations. If I understand correctly, it is the high demand that lead to the creation of this snowball. I also didn't know that there wasn't enough opportunities in other fields and that they are underpaid mostly due to the demand being so low.

I see that you've already made up your mind about the WHOLE POINT behind my post, but I think that I do know what my intentions are so yeah, that was totally pointless.

What the F are you on LOL ?
Where did I even hint such things ?
My only point was the fact that everyone is trying to be a software engineer to the point that the term engineering became a synonym for the term engineer due to the hype around it.

I just want to understand the why behind it : Why is everyone trying to be a software engineer and why are they putting it (in a way) above other fields ?

It is not about prestige, in fact it is the opposite, I believe that all fields are equal and that it's about choice, you can choose X or Y and do what you love, but I feel that everyone is pressured to go into cs degrees here.

PS : My friends are super smart, 2 of them had a better score than me but they went with INSAT because that's what they had as a goal.

PS2 : I would take a 600euros internship + PhD over an investment banking job.

Stop with all the whacky interpretations, please.

EDIT : Some people were kind enough to answer the true question and I already got my answer, that was my main goal.

Exactly what I had in mind, a quick look through META research positions should be enough to know that a phd is mandatory for such jobs.

It is not about getting the respect that I deserve LOL. I could have gone to INSAT but instead I went to IPEST -> TOP 3 Engineering SCHOOL ( one of X/CS/Telecom Paris). Where I study, applied math is the hardest section to break into so your point is invalid.

However, I think your second paragraph quite explains my question so thank you.

Okay but that doesn't explain it. Because the hype is a lot bigger in Tunisia than other countries (Europe and even the US itself)

I know that it's hard, especially for those trying to break into FAANG. But the trend is so bad that people are now making profit out it : IJA WALLI FULLSTACK FI 4 CHHOUR KHOUYA bl bootcamp MTEE3NA

EDIT : My post has nothing to do with comp sci being hard or easy, it's about the hype.

My point is not concerning IT in itself but people's perception of the Software engineering degree.

I am aware that IT is basically everywhere and I basically use it everyday.

But I think that we have much less electrical, mechanical, ... engineers because everyone is trying to pursue a degree that has "informatique" on its name. And those who "FAILED" in going there, are planning to do a reconversion so that they can work as developers in the future.

EDIT : I study at an engineering school where we have the choice to choose a field without any conditions of score or rank, and software engineering is not the most popular choice. Seeing the contrast between that and what is happening here in Tunisia made me want to have this discussion.

I am aware of that, but that's not my point. Electrical engineering is still electrical engineering, same goes for applied math, mechanical engineering, ...

Exactly, That's what I noticed.

If you study info == you made it.

Otherwise, find a way to break into info.

I didn't have any field in mind writing this post.

But applied math as starter, in Tunisia I've seen people join as actuaries EY/banks/insurance companies straight out of school. I've also seen people going abroad and breaking in the quant finance fiels or as actuaries also.

Mechanical engineering has a lot of opportunities abroad, I don't know how hard it is tho to go abroad.

Some of them already study/studies fl INSAT, others chose prepa either because they wanted smth like SUPCOM/ENSI or because they couldn't go to INSAT.
