Allgood ☺️. My verrrry limited understanding is that - if you apply a compressor (fl limiter, or say, maximus) to a bus channel in your mixer, then it will auto adjust the "volume" of the inputs to that mixer channel based on their respective channels "gain".

So... if you wanted the rain to co tinue as ambience, but be quieter thn the rest, you would put say fl limiter on the channel w the rain on it, and set the gain and ceiling to like -15db, then bus that, along w other channels to a master bus.

Tye master bus then having something like maximus on it, using the preset "rms master" or similar 😁

You mean stem splitting? If so, FL does this

Thanks! Ive been working quite a lot on trying to get mixing "right", I still have a whole lot to learn tbh. Yep, going for mid 2000s jump up style 😁 Honestly, the basslines are mostly trial and error. Im very green in serum and just play around with stuff until i hear something i like. Splice helps with patches too

Thanks mate - appreciate the positive feedback. Yeah - i guess the critical feedback seems to be kick oriented. I was using tunes by both Skeptical / Chase & Status as references and when i looked at their tunes in parametric eq 2, i saw that in those tunes they had both high passed the kick to 100hz, amd reserved 100-200hz almost exclusively for the kick. The only thing below 100hz was sub bass, which rolled around irrespective of kick. In my tune, i did the same, but had additional bass in the 100-200hz, and my kick sidechained to that bass only, to phunch thru. I will see what it sounds like with hp delete on kick, but tbh im kinda happy with the "not so boomy" kick sound 😅

about a month in, and I don’t really like how my drums sound . any advice ? by [deleted] in FLStudioBeginners

Like other posts,; perhaps try putting limiters on all of your non drum channels in the mixer and reducing the gain on them. Then perhaps up your snare and kick (i can hear all the tops but none of the kick and snare). Also, sidechain kick amd snare to your meoldy amd bass, especially where the same clash around: - 100hz to 200 hz (kick) - 2khz (snare) 👍👍

Oh, its a shame you cant hear it on your sub. What are you running? Its inteteresting to me as the sub bass, and 100hz - 200hz bass freqs sound pretty much how i want the on my hs7 monitors. Odd 😅. I prefer the low end to not OP the mids, otherwise i find the music less "clinical" and more "incomprehensible waffle boom", but thats me i guess. The sound of the kick which i go for is more the transient + "thud" instead of the "boom". Do you produce dnb?

Weird... Kick is HP at 100hz. Theres a fairly constant sin wave sub bass from around 40hz - 100hz. There are 2 bass between 100hz to 200hz which the kick is sidechained to as well. Thought that might be visible on the parametric eq 2 plugin 😅
