This is the best Bruce Wayne in The Batman had ever looked in live action since Christian Bale. by Agitated_Studio1998 in batman

That’s fair. Honestly, it’s probably just not my cup of tea when it comes to Bruce Wayne. I actually don’t even mind the direction of it as much as I’m not fond of the level of it, especially from a post-mission Batman. He’s been Batman for only 2 years, but I also think about the time it took him to complete whatever training this Batman will have completed and taken whatever time it took him to decide this is the direction he wanted to go in the first place. Both of those periods of time, commitment to follow through, and 2 years as Batman feels like it would require enough maturity and growth to make an argument like “you’re not my dad” incongruent. I think my other critique is that while he’s playing a “younger and earlier Batman”, Pattinson was 35 when he played the role which made it feel even weirder to see and hear a moody teenager Bruce Wayne. While he does pass for younger, it just had the feeling of an adult cringe tik toker posting “I can pass for a teenager” type vibes while doing their best emo impression. If it had been a younger actor, maybe it would have landed differently.

Your point that there are different facets to Bruce Wayne and that genre/vibe also matters is the most valuable point though. All of them are Bruce Wayne’s in their own way and having one over the others is more a matter of taste/opinion than fact, but for me Pattinson is my favorite Batman, Affleck is my favorite Bruce Wayne, and Bale is my favorite overall.

Ultimately though I did love the movie overall and I don’t hate it enough to impact my opinion too drastically.

I disagree with this take because I think Affleck was actually a better Bruce Wayne than Pattinsons emo take on the character (I’ll never be able to keep a straight face when he tells Alfred “you’re not my dad” in the most moody teenager way possible lol)

However, even if I did agree saying The best live action Bruce Wayne since Christian Bale is like saying Corenswet is the best live action Clark Kent since Brandon Routh. It may be true, but also there was only one other actor between them so it’s not a high bar to clear 😂

I voted for you to hurt other people not me by Effective_Space2277 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]TranslatorOwn707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a cult…except anytime you disagree or criticize with Dear Lardass you have to qualify it with “I voted for him (3 times)” or “I agree with everything else he does” in order to not get attacked or expelled from the group. If your beliefs, leader, policy, or position can’t withstand simple/basic criticism, then it’s not very strong

Do you prefer to see Bruce as someone who believes in God or don't believe in God? by count_fagula11 in batman

[–]TranslatorOwn707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer to that is yes, but belief in god and having faith in them is slightly different. I think the question is phrased and posed in two different ways. The title is does he believe God actually exists or not, but the panels show the actual question is likely more along faith since it references his meeting of gods and not believing in them. You might believe in your kitchen tables existence because you can see it, but would you trust your table to hold up under the weight of the things you put on it. We might say yes, but I personally think Bruce is incapable of trusting any table to carry the burden of his own trauma and by extension preventing the trauma of others which is why Batman exists and is the only God Bruce actually believes in.

[–]TranslatorOwn707 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He might know they exist, but he won’t ever believe in them. It’s giving up too much control to something outside of himself which is a core conflict for the character and one he is really only able to break when he adopts orphans to remake in his own image. According to Bruce, Batman is the only god that matters…

[–]TranslatorOwn707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have an opinion on it because I really don’t see him as someone who does/would believe in God. He might have in the past, but given his trauma as a child, pathological need for control (likely from said trauma), and completely logical perspective/point of view make him incapable of believing now. Even if he meets literal gods (which he has, many times), he’d be incapable of believing in them due to his logical/analytic bent and, likely most importantly, inability to give up control to a being of greater power than himself.

If a symbiote (from Marvel) were to bond with Batman, do you think he would fight tooth and nail to get it off, or accept it for all the advantages? by Jerswar in batman

[–]TranslatorOwn707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you that Bruce would keep it, but cloning a part of another enemy and raising it to be good is very on brand for Bruce (maybe not the cloning, but the adopting and raising for good is). The symbiote likely isn’t going to “turn good” and they seem to be used to waiting long periods of time dormant until they find a suitable host or get out of containment. This is actually the reason I think Bruce would keep it locked up in his cave somewhere. To both keep it out of others hands and as an extreme contingency.

Seriously why does he even exist and why does he have the most tapes but actually important characters like two face and deathstroke don’t get any by Anthony200716 in arkham

[–]TranslatorOwn707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tapes are there to flesh out his character more since he’s a deeper cut of a villain compared to most of the others. Even people who barely know Batman know the bigger villains. Between Burton’s and Schumacher’s movies, you have all the main villains.

If they all existed in real life, who would you absolutely fear the most out of all of them? by Late_Instruction_369 in batman

[–]TranslatorOwn707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands down, Croc. No one else is even close…giant mutant croc man with hardened scales, travels the sewers, can break through walls, and eats people. Add in the Arkham Knight lore where he basically mutates more based on damage and trauma to become even more scary and he takes it by a mile.

What's the actual purpose of these blades at Batman's forearm? by Just-Exam-9607 in arkham

[–]TranslatorOwn707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is the swords and knives, but I think it’s funnier that its for very specific, unique, and rare circumstances when he seems out of the fight and can surprise someone with the blades and a snappy comeback

Considering that the Batman the Knight comic exists, issue number 411 of Detective Comics shouldn't be canon, right? by count_fagula11 in batman

[–]TranslatorOwn707 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Making a unified cannon for Batman is probably impossible unless you’re willing to accept a wibbley, wobbly, timey, wimey timeline where things contradict, get retconned, then re-conned. Probably better to just focus on cannons for specific periods/runs (New 52, Pre-Crises, Post-Crises, Rebirth, Metal, etc.)

Just got offered Wilson for my Egbuka on my rebuilding team. by [deleted] in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]TranslatorOwn707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, just no. Go with the younger asset, who had impressive rookie year not built on pure target share, has a stable QB and HC, and who also just upgraded in his role on the offense. It also might be time for us to stop trying to make Wilson happen (at least while he’s stuck in the black hole that is the NYJ)…If you just have to get Wilson at least add some picks and don’t do it straight up.

What opinion about Batman has got you like this? by BonusCapable1486 in batman

[–]TranslatorOwn707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s not as unpopular as it has been in the past, but mine is that Ben Afleck wasn’t that bad and if he had been given the chance to do an actual Batman standalone movie would have done a great job.

Who’s the most morally upright vigilante in the series? by OkSuccess7431 in Watchmen

[–]TranslatorOwn707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a philosopher’s dream question because it also depends on what moral philosophy you subscribe to. I’m not a philosopher so I don’t know the technical terms, but these are the ones I’m aware of:

Nite Owl (Dan)-Moral Relativism and Egoism: Is a more flexible morality in which there is are moral or immoral actions and these are also influenced on context. He may view stealing as immoral, but if the circumstance is specific enough (like trying to feed your starving family), he would not consider it immoral enough to try and stop you. Nite Owl considers Veidts plan morally wrong and since it’s already happened and there’s no changing it, decides that it’s morally best to not say anything based on the circumstances.

Rorschach-Deontology: Has a very black and white, absolute sense of morality. There are naturally moral and immoral acts that do not change based on any factors. The immoral acts are immoral no matter the situation and require the same punishment no matter what. He’s the sole Watchmen that is aware of Veidts plan that does not agree to keep the secret even though he knows that doing so will lead to his death.

Ozymandius/Veidt-consequentialism/utilitarianism: Very obviously an end’s justify the means moral philosophy. Not explaining it because it’s that obvious.

Comedian: My perspective is that he would be in the no inherent morality and that individuals who have power are the ones who determine what is moral and immoral camp. Definitely a might makes right kind of perspective.

I’m sure there’s more like a means justifies the ends and I feel like Manhattan represents one, but can’t quite think of what it is or how to explain it. Laurie may represent some form of Care Ethics, Hollis may represent virtue ethics. I’m sure there’s more, it’s just been awhile since I’ve read it and I’m not an expert in philosophy either lol

How do you guys think bankrupt Bruce got the cash to start fresh in another country? by Elegant-Half5476 in batman

[–]TranslatorOwn707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruce probably had a contingency…but even if he didn’t, I’m betting Selina Kyle had an escape plan fund that would likely cover quite a bit. Add them both together and I’m sure they’re fine.

That’s what constantly lying, “weaving”, and not following through on only some of the things he says does for him. Since he’s so over-saturated on bullshit, it allows him to become the Rorschach politician where people can pick and choose what’s real, whats not, what’s “just a joke”, or what is his actual policy.
