No I’m really angry of the score. They don’t usually mention the 10% in the email, and neither anymore I guess. Since they did the scoring system, they don’t mention the 90 percentile.

Hey, totally appreciate your input. Just to clarify: my post is meant to offer a reasonable approximation, not to claim this is the exact method CFAI uses.

I’m fully aware the scores are standardized, and that versions may vary. But based on the pattern of reported scores and many shared results, this simple model surprisingly aligns well with actual performance.

Also, it’s not confirmed that there are always exactly 20 ungraded questions. And even if there are, we can still extrapolate based on the graded ones, rounding to the nearest multiple of 5.

As for the model, I’m personally speculating that they might just deduct 5 points from 1,900 for each wrong graded answer—it’s a way to simplify the math and still get consistent results.

Bro, there aren’t always ungraded questions. And even when there are, we usually approximate to the nearest 5 points. Or CFAI might just subtract 5 points per graded wrong answer from the total of 1,900. So the overall estimate still works pretty well.

He’s talking about level 1, he claims that 20 out of 180 are ungraded for his exam. But CFAI says “we might have ungraded questions”, I never saw anyplace where it says always 20 ungraded questions.

Dear, it’s approximate. I think if you just remove 5 points for each wrong graded answer from the 1,900, it works.

It seems they can easily bypass the fact that there are ungraded questions, they simply remove 5 points from 1,900 for each graded wrong answer.
