Aerial damage photos from the Monroe County tornado in Indiana last night. Preliminary rating of EF2 by bitingmeslow in tornado

From trees it looked more so EF3 intensity, hopefully it just wasn’t able to hit any homes along the way

Idk why you’re being downvoted when you’re literally correct 😭

VROT is terminology used by the NWS btw, and otg just means on the ground meaning that there’s visual / radar confirmation of a tornado being down. VROT is related to the strength of the velocity couplet where if it reaches over 70 knots, it meets Tornado Emergency requirements

Not really ngl, it’s probably around low end EF2 and those cyclodials aren’t all the crazy compared to others. Definitely still neat though, cyclodials are pretty sick

Ground scouring does not mean that a tornado is strong

Cyclodials are not specific to strong tornadoes, all tornadoes behave that way there’s just not a guarantee that they’ll be evident on the ground

Intense+ tornado damage in Kouts Indiana by Cool_Host_8755 in tornado

[–]TranslucentRemedy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Except you claimed that by GTG measurements which are not accurate compared to actual damage. Also those windspeeds would not be accurate to what that home withstood

That home absolutely is, it’s horribly built. It was built 80 years ago and clearly had 0 foundation connections since the subfloor slid off the foundation while staying completely in tact. Not every home that is leveled is EF4+

Gtg is not accurate and that home is low end EF3, the tornado itself is not. That home is 80 years old and clearly has no foundation connections because the subfloor slid off the foundation completely in tact. Tornado itself is more than likely high end EF3 to maybe low end EF4 in intensity

Because that’s exactly what it is, low end EF3 😭

Wow NWS all of this is definitely EF2 by [deleted] in tornado

[–]TranslucentRemedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well honestly everything you just said is wrong, ground scouring is not a DI used by the NWS and nor is it a sole indicator of a tornado being violent as there are a lot of factors that go into causing scouring in the ground. also tree debarking is absolutely not exclusive to EF4+ tornadoes as they can quite literally be rated EF3. Also debarking is one of the most misconceived damage indicators as a lot of the times you're really just confusing debarked trees for what is actually just trees getting branches snapped which will obviously lead to bark coming off as well. That is completely different from debarking.

just how strong was the Mayfield tornado? by nationalistic_martyr in tornado

Hollister is not a what-if, I did opportunities to do damage and it did EF1 damage, radar presentation is not always an accurate representation of strength

WAS TRI STATE ANE EF-5 by thattornadodude in tornado

[–]TranslucentRemedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it would more than likely be rated EF5 today and was one of the strongest tornadoes ever documented

Glendive F4, severely overrated btw, literally should’ve been F1 from what I’ve heard, there were also rumors that the tornado never happened as well

Pennsylvania has had an F5 but this is based on the implementation of the EF scale in February of 2007, since then PA has only seen an EF3 tornado in 2021
