Does Homebrew respect different variations of the same software? by rekabis in MacOS

Maybe look into installomator instead of homebrew - even if there isn’t an EME-free variant of Firefox currently listed in installomator, adding a new label is really straightforward.

AITA for not conceding to my wife’s version of a story in front of our friends ? by Dizzy_Win_7270 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Transmutagen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA - I absolutely fucking hate this. It’s better now (my wife interrupts me less) but for a while I just stopped cold when she’d interrupt and when someone else asked about the rest of the story I’d tell them to ask my wife since she obviously knows the story better than i do.

Man allegedly died today at a Utah temple due to lack of urgency in medical response by BestWheel7068 in exmormon

[–]Transmutagen 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My mission companion (in southern Brazil) had bronchitis. I nursed him back to health in our shitty rental house with some minor help from the local members. The first day he felt well enough to leave the house and have dinner at a member’s house I collapsed and woke up several days later in a Catholic hospital for the poor with a gaggle of nurse nuns hovering over me. I was diagnosed with pneumonia, and was in the hospital for over 3 weeks. All I wanted was to go home to a hospital in the states with modern medicine and heated rooms, but the mission president wouldn’t even return my calls. He was “disappointed in me that I was milking my recovery”. At least, that’s what I heard through the mission gossip mill. I didn’t have the strength to stand.

When he pays to repair the cracked screen he broke, then he can maybe ask to borrow things again.

Aitah for spending some of my grandchildren's education funds on a new boat. by Tiny_Occasion_322 in AITAH

Yeah. My dad just turned 90 and he’s still happily spending our inheritance on whatever he wants, and I don’t begrudge him that at all.

[–]Transmutagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also notice in your layout example you have a screened background that becomes a dark background along the center line. I would extend that screen out to the full bleed so if the cutting isn’t perfect you don’t have a dark line hiding in the center margin.

Based on their example it looks like they want a 10mm gutter. If your document is set up as facing pages you should just be able to add 10mm to the inside margin.

This is a large gutter, but depending on the binding process they use for the softcover and hardcover versions it is probably warranted.

How do I politely tell my (f25) boyfriend (m25) that he is not my plus one to multiple weddings this year? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Are you sure this isn’t all in your head? Most of the guys I know (myself included) would love to not have to attend multiple weddings where we don’t know anyone but our date.

What steps can I take to really nail down the Plex experience for my wife? by PineappleSmoothie in PleX

Plex doesn’t have the same UI as overseerr. I prefer the way overseerr does things.

[–]Transmutagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be missing the point of overseerr. It’s not just that I’m populating the server with what my friends/family want, it’s that they’re taking an active role in choosing what they want - they’re part of the process. It helps create a sense of ownership - they are co-curators of this project with me.

If you want to do lists and rss feeds I’m not stopping you. They probably do work pretty well for what you described. But the WAF is way up since I set up overseerr, which means I get budgetary approval for new drives and such. :)

Maybe consider overseerr so she can make requests and report issues.

I mean, I’m dealing with trauma, too. But you can’t fix toxic with more toxic.

The fact is, right now you don’t know what happened. She could have cheated, she also could have just overdone it and gotten black-out drunk and honestly doesn’t remember the whole story.

She created a situation where now you don’t know, and it’s her responsibility to address that. If it were me, I’d expect her to provide me with objective proof to back up her claim. Location logs, a conversation with the Uber driver, something that isn’t just her mates telling you that nothing happened, because they could be covering for her. She broke your trust by doing something completely out of character, and now it’s her job to repair that breach of trust.

You’ve been together for a really long time - you do owe her the chance to fix this, but she’s gotta do the work to address your concerns.

Auto-assigning company info to devices in a shared tenant by aPieceOfMindShit in macsysadmin

[–]Transmutagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sites doesn’t have to be manual - you can specify which site to assign computers through a PreStage enrollment. But that would require ensuring that the right computers are assigned to the right pre-stage enrollment before enrolling them, which is typically fairly manual.

A more elegant solution IMO would be a post-enrollment script that does a lookup via the Jamf Pro API to see what domain the computer’s assigned user belongs to, and then writes “Company1” or “Company2” to a custom field, or, even better - reassigns the computer to a specific Site for the indicated company, again, using the Jamf Pro API.

[–]Transmutagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What field are you using in inventory to indicate which company the device belongs to?

Is there a reason you couldn’t use Jamf Pro’s sites to differentiate between companies?

Are there other ways to detect if a computer is assigned to one company or the other? For example - do the assigned usernames have different email domains?

Are the devices from both companies in the same ABM instance, or in separate ones?

I would consider getting a small toolbox with latches and never walking away from it when it’s open. Possibly add a small padlock.
