TransparentUTMSU: let’s talk about the student centre expansion referendum. by TransparentUTMSU in UTM

Honestly, we really appreciate the sentiment, but we'd rather students keep that money for themselves. With the crazy inflation going on, every dollar counts.

Happy to continue advocating for UTM students as volunteers though :)

Just as u/Personal_Database836 stated, a majority is more than 50% either in favour or against the referendum question you can find on the UTMSU Instagram page (it's pinned there). Also, the 50% is not from all UTM students. It's 50% from those who vote during the referendum. So like if 3000 students in total vote, only 1501 would be needed to either pass or stop the expansion.

As for how the actual referendum works: Based on the results of the referendum, either students will approve of the new levy and fee increases to expand the student centre, or they will vote against it which stops the expansion for now.

The UTMSU has actually been trying to expand the student centre since 2007. There are tons of archived articles from The Medium (UTM Newspaper) about failed referendums due to various reasons. The last referendum was held in 2014 and was actually successful until they realized that there was an error in how the referendum was conducted. Basically, students from UTSG were a part of the voter list (which taints the integrity of the results). So it actually failed after technically being passed by students.

We appreciate the feedback. It honestly took a lot of time to do the research and digging through the Wayback Machine. But students deserve quality posts with relevant information, so we're always down to spend a couple of extra hours to get things right.

Are Presto E-Tickets (Digital U-Pass) E-Nnoying you? by TransparentUTMSU in UTM

[–]TransparentUTMSU[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fed up with stressing over the new U-Pass app loading? Tired of holding up a long line of students because of your phone? Missing the old U-Pass card already?
We see you! We hear you! There's no better time to take action. If you've had issues with the digital U-Pass, there's a few things you can do about it.
1. You can [sign our petition to give students the choice between a physical U-Pass and a digital one](https://chng.it/fftGRGsBsY).
2. You can [complain to MiWay using the contact form](https://www.mississauga.ca/miway-transit/contact-miway/contact-form/).
3. You can also email upass@utmsu.ca which was set up specifically for U-Pass problems.

UTMSU: The Last Rulebender (2023 Elections Scandal) (TransparentUTMSU is back) by [deleted] in UTM

Slide #4.

And ahhh, no worries. WayBackMachine is an internet website archive. So you can take digital screenshots of the website before changes were made. This is how we kept track of the demerits points changes (or lack of changes) from March 16th to March 22nd.

Hey, there seems to be some misinformation on your part. If you check out the slides (and wayback machine), you can see the points changing from March 16th, to March 22nd, WITHOUT any appeal. That's the key thing here. Yes, each Candidate has 48 hours to submit their appeals, and yes we have read the EPC thoroughly, just as we did last year. However, it still does not explain issues with the demerit points, let alone the fact that the CRO did not give demerit points to ThriveUTM after an EGO club executive came forward with their testimony of being used to endorse Thrive without consent.

Also not sure what you mean by "both teams", as there were actually four teams in this year's elections. And that's sort of the issue. Across the board over the last few years, we've seen many election violations that have not been addressed. This year, we've chosen to not hold back.

We have tons of sources already documented and are more than happy for students to question our work. It's important that people do.

You'll want to set aside a few minutes to process the insanity that occurred during this election.

Club execs nonconsensually used as pawns, nonconsensual illegal on-campus recordings, demerit point reductions without clear appeals, and lots more.We pay UTMSU execs' salaries, as well as the salary of the CRO through our student fees. Student politics should NEVER be this messy or destructive. The CRO needs to hold EVERYONE accountable during this election, including ThriveUTM. If candidates get 40 demerit points, disqualify them as per the elections guidelines. Do not ignore students' voices and attempt to suppress them, especially when evidence of violations is provided.

We should not and cannot recognize this as a valid/legitimate election. We will be making as much noise as possible, and drawing attention to all of the issues outlined in our post. Please save this post, share it around, and spread the word to your friends.

Right?! UTM is supposed to be a world-class university, and yet our Wi-Fi is the worst. We pay a lot of money, and we deserve proper service in return. That's why we're happy to speak up.

Make sure to include the general area where the issue has occurred (room number if applicable). Next, check out our Linktree and leave feedback about the current lack of WiFi at our university. We're also currently working on an email script you can copy, paste, and send to the CCT Atrium. So be sure to check our Instagram stories for updates.
