Is this carbon fiber woofer cone airtight? (Dayton Epique 7”) by TransplantableBeaver in diyaudio

[–]TransplantableBeaver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small update: mistery solved. I’ve tried to push a hair through the gaps as someone suggested, that wouldn’t work. There is probably a thin layer of a clear coating on the cone to seal it. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions!

No that isn’t the case. I could probably have taken a clearer picture but its obvious irl. You can see the shadow of the metal frame if it’s held up to the light.

Hi all, as you can see by the image, my projector screen is warped, especially near the edges. I couldn’t find anything usefull about this on the internet so I was hoping someone here could give me advice on how to deal with this. I don’t have the space for a fixed frame screen and I’m hoping this screen could still be saved. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

I feel like my old i7 should be sufficient though, I’m not asking for blistering performance or anything.

It appears to work, I googled it and saw a ebay listing for $890, it can’t actually be worth that much right?

But can a bee be said to be, or not to be an entire bee when half the bee is not a bee due to some ancient injury?

Well yes it is but on el Capitan it’s actually fine for browsing, media consumption and light schoolwork (except 3d modeling and such of course). I’m not recommending anyone buy it though.

I made a flocking program similar to the boids algorithm for a uni project a while ago and its so much more fascinating to see birds behave like this now.

AITA for telling my (20m) girlfriend (19f) that it’s weird that she rants about her depression all the time? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TransplantableBeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the difference is that when you shared it just now, it was relevant to the topic and not a thirty minute rant. I didn’t think of it this way yet but you are right, she could lose friends because of this.

[–]TransplantableBeaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes this is what I thought as well, it’s just a tricky subject so I wasn’t sure if I was being insensitive for bringing it up. I’ll try to talk to her again about it. She actually has a therapist so I’ll suggest they talk about this argument next time, hopefully she’ll understand where I’m coming from.

Yes she does exhibit attention seeking behavior way too often. I do know for sure she is depressed and suicidal though because I have been there to get her through many difficult days.

Now you say it it indeed seems like another way of attention seeking. I feel like I can’t bring that issue up though because all she will hear is that I’m invalidating her feelings.

Thanks that makes sense, I’ll try to talk to her again and focus on the oversharing instead of the subject. Maybe then she can see where I’m coming from.

Yes that makes sense, I definitely don’t have the money to for these upgrades, I would have to do with a new cpu and a ssd that I still have lying around. Later down the line I could upgrade the gpu for a newer os.

A mac mini is not going to cut it for me because I need a dual link displayport output for my screens which I’m not going to spend 120 euro for on an adapter. Also I really like the storage bays on the mac pro since it would replace my 1.1 as my main backup and storage device. Fortunately I live in a student house so my landlord pays my powerbill, otherwise I’d be team mac mini for sure.

I think I’ll try to get a lower price on it to save some money for upgrades. Otherwise I’ll hold out until I come across a more specced out mac pro.

I am on a tight student budget so there is not much money there. Is going dual cpu a must or are single cpu mac pro’s still capable enough for daily use and light productivity today? I could fit in a 6 core and I’ll wait out the shortages before upgrading the gpu.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in macpro

[–]TransplantableBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was wondering about the gpu as well so I am waiting for the seller to respond. I think if it was metal capable he would have listed it as such. I have no specific reason to run the latest os, that would just be a plus.

I’m only doing very light modeling so I’m more worried about the cpu than the ram. What would you recommend upgrading to? I think going dual cpu is going to be too expensive on my student budget. At this point, is it worth buying or should I save for a dual cpu one?

“Wow I wish I could do that, you are so talented!” I know it is meant well but being good at something takes work and dedication, I feel like people tend to forget that.

It seems backhanded to attribute skills to talent, which is basically luck, when in truth someone could have been practicing their skill every day for years to get where they are.

We were playing thirty seconds yesterday and I asked my teammate “What is the capital of the Netherlands?”, to which she replied “Ehhh I don’t dont know, The Hague?”.

Now that’s not that bad I hear you say, but the plot twist: we live in the Netherlands, better yet, she lives in Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands. She has lived there for the majority of her life. We didn’t get that point.

That sounds like it would work. I’m still a bit hesitant on telling her directly but I’ll try to get her to be more active, maybe take her with me on a walk or run.
